DIYANAH POV
"Diyanah! Would you mind helping me with this?", aku meninggalkan timbunan baju, yang sedang aku lipat, untuk ke dapur."What is it, Wan?", aku melihat nenekku cuba sedaya upaya untuk membuka penutup bekas strawberi jem. Apa lagi? Diyanah yang 'kuat' to the rescue!
"Would you like some?", tanyanya sambil menyapu jem pada sekeping roti yang telah dibakar.
"Nope. I haven't finished folding the clothes yet", dia angguk sahaja.
Wan tidak mengubah langsung susun atur bilik ini kerana atukku dulu yang menyusunnya begini and yes, my grandfather was an English man if you're wondering.
He married Wan when he was 22 years old and Wan was only 20. They met in college-typical, I know. It wasn't loved at first sight though. Both of them had mutual friends so they got to know each other pretty easily.
They went to a party together. Apparently Wan made the first move and everything was going great. They hung out all the time, went to the park, had picnics and all the cute things you would see on the telly back then. There is a but, though!
Things became... baaddd?... when she told Atuk that she had feelings for him. Unfortunately, she was heartbroken because Atuk was still in love with his ex. Of course after that, things became awkward between them.
She couldn't even look at Atuk's face. She was that embarrassed. Though, because both of them had mutual friends, they had no choice but to see each other whenever there's a party, small friend meeting or what-eves.
It wasn't cheap studying and staying in another country so of course, she had financial issues. At one point, she was in deep trouble. So trouble that she was almost *that* close to moving back to Malaysia.
A couple of months later, Wan managed to work it all out (financial issues) and found a way to stay for another semester. She had already told her friends and Atuk (because he was there with her friends) that she's leaving.
Because of that, she was so nervous to tell Atuk that she had decided to stay. She didn't want him to feel trapped after what had happened.
To her surprise, when she told him, he was over the moon! Apparently, he realized that Wan was the one for him. From that point on, they hung out every single day and ended up getting married in Malaysia. They decided to stay here. Unfortunately, Atuk passed away when I was 14 years old.
Since then, Wan has been living here alone but we made the effort to see her as much as we can and we even fly her to Malaysia every now and then.
The good news is that babah's sister, Acu, stays here too so we always know how she's doing.
Her children who of course are my cousins, Lea and Mal, love to stay with us in Malaysia. Diorang ni la yang suka tinggal lama-lama dekat rumah aku tu.
Aku memanjangkan tangan dan mengambil frame gambar yang berada di night standnya. Gambar raya kami 2 tahun lepas. Semua cousins, uncle and auties aku ada.
"Lovely picture isn't it?", aku terbangun daripada lamunan. Aku angguk.
"Sorry we couldn't come last year for eid"
"It's okay. Maybe this year?", aku hanya membalas dengan senyuman.
"Do you know when Mal and Lea are coming? They told me they'll be here but didn't tell me when", tanyaku.
