"Sam!", I call as I barge into her office. "Faith is in trouble."
Sam looks up from the papers on her desk. Her smooth face marred by a small wrinkle over her brow. As she leans back in her wheeled office chair the creaking of leather breaks the silence after my announcement. "Did Faith call for help?" She finally asks. Despite the calm tone in her voice I know she is concerned. She cares so deeply for all of us.
"I felt vibrations from the disc I gave her." I say as I walk more into the office and shut the door. "It felt like she was in a serious fight, but she won't call for help."
"Do you know where she is?"
"Yes. I can take us to her. Its far, but we should be able to reach it in about a day." I watch Sam while she decides what to do. Her brows are furrowed as she looks out the window towards the training grounds.
"Get Christina and Lily to my office please." She says after a short minute.
Without question I leave the small office. The walk out to the training grounds is brief. When I arrive I see Christina lounging on a chair of vines while Lily babbles about the future. If you didn't know that Lily was actually Christina's descendant from the future they could easily be mistaken for twins. Both have the pale skin with dark brown eyes. Both are tall with long hair. Truly the only difference between them is that Christina's hair is wavy while Lily's is straight.
Christina spots me and waves me over, "Vi come sit with me." As she finishes her sentence more vines spring from the ground and twine with the existing chair to flawlessly become a couch. She pats the new space she created for me to sit down.
"I can't sit with you. Sam needs you in her office right now. Both of you." I decline doing my best to keep my voice even.
Lily pauses whatever day dreaming she had been doing. Both girls look at me concerned and when I turn to walk back to Sams office I hear the quiet gritty sound of the vines slipping back into the earth. Our long strides carry us back to the main house in no time. Beside the door I spot the new girl Shiloe and her friend I'd trapped the other night. Shiloe smiles and waves, her friend does not. I wave back as I cross into the house.
"I hope she finds a way to adjust. It can be upsetting discovering abilities later in life.", Lily's voice whispers in the hallway.
The rest of our walk is silent. When we make it to Sam's office I leave the girls and go back to my room. Inside my roomie and best friend Roxy is unpacking her suitcase. "How was Paris?" I ask as I flop onto my mattress and reach for my fluffiest pillow. Her delicate shoulder lifts in a shrug as she hangs a sleek new mini dress. When she turns she dazzles me with her normally infectious grin.
"It was amazing!" She rushes to my side and topples me over. I wobble then slowly return ti sitting upright. Roxy begins describing her adventures through gardens and fashion shows. "Boys, wine, and clothes in all the varieties on repeat for two entire gorgeous weeks!" She collapses onto my other pillows smiling at me. I feel my face attempt to crinkle into a returning smile. Roxy sits up and grabs my hand "What's wrong Vi?"
I take a deep breath before I tell her about my concerns regarding Faith. Worry etches her face as I continue speaking. "Sam is convening with Lily and Christina right now. If they can come up with a plan or figure out how to help..." My words trail away.
Roxy pats the hand she is holding and draws my attention to her face. "They will come up with a plan and everything will turn out fine. It always does."
