Chapter 16
For the next couple of days I met Jensen at the park and we continued with our work outs. We also hung out the past two nights as well. One night we went bowling and the other night we had an early dinner at a local café close to my High School. That particular date was proceeded by a make-out session in his car. As I recalled us kissing in the back seat of his car I remembered him asking if it would be ok if he could put his hands up my shirt. I remember thinking that was so 6th grade-ish. Caleb would have just done it, with no questions asked. His passion and lust for me would have just taken over. Jensen was just too nice. Almost too nice!
“Earth to Cali,” said Jensen. I am sorry Jensen, what were you saying? “I was saying that I am going to leave tomorrow for about a week to my new college. I have to get my dorm and class registration sorted out and stuff. Try not to miss me too much,” he said playfully. You’re a butthead you know that I said, smacking him lightly on his head. “Come here,” he spoke, and then he pulled me up from the ground where I was doing stretches. Without even thinking, he pulled me closer for a hug and then leaned down to kiss me. His lips grazed mine, but before the kiss had any chance to become more deepened we were interrupted.
Clap, Clap, Clap. I looked up. Shit, it was Caleb. “Well, well, well, what do we have here?” He said it with such venom in his voice while finally seizing his obnoxious clapping. His salty looking skin was glistening in the sun and his windblown hair was partially covered by a backwards Hurley cap. His ice blue eyes were piercing into mine with pure anger and all I could think about was “if looks could kill.” Also, what the hell was he doing here?
“What’s up Caleb,” said Jensen looking puzzled at the clear display of anger showing on Caleb’s face. “What brings you here?” “Well, it’s a good thing Skylar is waiting back in the car,” he responded. “I am sure he wouldn’t appreciate seeing one of his best buddies making moves on his little sister.”
I looked at Jensen who was shaking his head slightly and then I looked back at Caleb with daggers. “It’s not like that man! Cali and I have been hanging out a lot.” “Oh is that right?” Caleb spat out with a sarcastic tone. He now looked at me with hate, “Let’s go, your brother is waiting in the car, we are locked out of the house.” And with that he turned around and walked away.
“What the hell is up with Benzy?” said Jensen all flustered. I think he is just trying to act over protective, like he is my brother or something I said. I was trying to cover up for him, but deep down inside I was fuming with anger. How dare he!
Look, I better go Jensen, have a good trip ok? “OK Cali, I will text you while I am gone.” He quickly kissed me on my forehead and then I jogged across the path to where their truck was waiting. I slapped on a fake smile and came around to the driver’s side and hugged my brother through the window. So, how was it? Did you have a good surf trip? “Epic girl, the waves were off the hook this time. Now get your ass in the truck, looks like a down pour is coming.” I made my way to the back of the truck, just about ready to hop in the back with the surf boards. “Cali,” yelled Skylar, “What the hell do you think you are doing? You can’t ride back there. I could get pulled over. Sit on Caleb’s lap!”
And with all the fury I had hidden inside of me because of Caleb’s angry display just now, I unleashed. I am not sitting on Caleb’s lap I yelled. I would rather walk! Caleb who was quiet throughout all of this spoke up, “Cali, just be quiet and get in the damn truck! Your brother and I are tired, hungry and a fricken storm is rolling in.” As if on cue, rain drops started falling. “Get in Cali! You have no choice,” yelled Skylar.
I was starting to get pelted pretty hard with rain drops. Reluctantly, I made my way to the front of the truck and hopped into Caleb’s warm lap. I didn’t say a word. He shifted in his seat to make it more comfortable for me and then casually wrapped his arms around me resting his hands on the sides of my lap. I could smell the saltiness of the ocean off of him and feel his hard chest against me; for 2 seconds I forgot how mad I was at him. Gosh damn’t, why did he have to be so intoxicating.
