But somethings bugging me, something ain't right.

Lilian grabs my hand, twirling me around. As I spin back to her, we knock into each other. "My best friend told me where you were last night!" We laugh, picking up stirring spoons and singing into them.

"Wake me up before you go go!"

Lilian groans, reaching over to lower the volume on the radio. "Dad, if you're going to sing, at least sing in the right key." Richard shrugs, moving over to ruffle his daughters hair.

"But it's much more fun to annoy you." I chuckle, watching the two bicker. It used to worry me how much they argue, but I've learned it's all in good nature.

"It's been just over four months, and still no sign of the Baudelaire siblings." My head snaps towards the device. "They were last seen at a hospital with their accomplice Ellis King. If you-"

The lady's voice disappears as Richard hurriedly shuts off the radio. He and Lilian stare at me, but neither say a word.

When the staring becomes too much, I exit the kitchen, going into the backyard. When I first moved in I would sit on the front porch; but then the neighbors would glare at me, push their children to the other side of the street, as far away from me as possible. Even after the trail -when I was declared not guilty- but they don't believe it. In their mind, not guilty isn't the same as innocent.

"Those people are idiots. They'll say anything to get more listeners." Lilian stands besides me.

I don't turn to her. "It's been four months. Why can't everyone just forget about it?"

"Is that what you want?" Lilian asks me. "To forget about the Baudelaires?"

A sigh escapes my lips. "I just want it to be over. I want to have a normal life." Glancing at Lilian, I see the solemn look in her eyes.

"Do you miss them?"

Do I? Yes. Do I wish I was with them? I'm not so sure. "I don't know anymore." Lilian raises her eyebrows. "So much has changed since then. This is the life I've been wanting for almost two years. No more Carmelita, no more family that doesn't care for me. I have you and Richard, a safe home, I'm fine."

"But are you happy?" The smile slips from my mouth. "Can you honestly say that you are happy without the Baudelaires? Without Klaus?" My heart drops, I can't speak. "I know how much he meant to you. And I know you don't just forget someone like that. After everything you told me about him, I know you can't possibly be happy with him gone." I don't realize I'm crying until she wipes the tears from my cheeks. "I can help you find them. You can be with him again."

Shaking my head, I push away from her. "No. I can't be a part of that again."
