"And I'd walk through the shadows of death just to be with you."
"Damn, why am I so poetic?"

"Holy shit." The words tumble out of my mouth. "He's dead." We all knew he was. There's no way he could have survived. But in drastic times, I don't think before speaking.
A murder of crows fly above us, squawking obnoxiously. The sugar bowl. But that's not the only thing. Kit's taxi pulls up. However, she's not the one to exit. A man is, and he walks over to us.
"Baudelaires, King." He greets.
Klaus stretches his hand out towards me, helping me up from the ground. "You're bleeding." Right. I forgot about that. He gently dabs around the wound with sleeve of his shirt, removing the excess blood to get a clearer look at the cut. "I don't think you'll need stitches, but we'll need to clean it to get a better look."
The man clears his throat, bringing our attention back to him. "My name is Lemony Snicket." Snicket. Kit. Jacques. "You look just like your mother." He peers at Violet with soft eyes.
"I'm sorry, do we know you?" Violet shuffles in her spot. Suddenly, guests begin opening their windows. Shouting about how we killed Dewey. "We didn't do anything! It was an accident!"
"They don't know that." They don't. They didn't see all that had happened. But that's enough to convince anyone. "What can we do?"
Lemony places a hand on Klaus' shoulder. "You can get in my taxi. Sometimes, I find it useful to get away quickly in a taxi."
I raise a brow at him. "You want us to run?"
"I can only help you if you get in this taxi." Justice Strauss appears, calling for the Baudelaires. Two police officers stand behind her. "We should leave before those officers reach us."
Klaus contemplates Lemony's words. He wants to run. It's not a bad idea. But I've run before, I don't want to again. Besides, we'd have to run the rest of our lives. That's not how I want to spend my time on earth.
Violet suggests staying. There'll be a trail tomorrow, to put Olaf in jail. We can't miss that. Not when he's terrorized us for so long.
Justice Strauss and the officers come closer. "Baudelaires? Ellis? Is everything all right?" We glance between her and Lemony, silently agreeing on what to do. Sending a small smile, I link hands with Klaus as we head towards Justice Strauss. She greets us with open arms. "I heard there was some trouble with a harpoon gun and one of the managers?"
"It was an accident." Violet shakes her head. "It was Count Olaf."
Justice Strauss sighs. "You won't have to worry about him for long. Come with me. You'll be safe. I promise." So we do. We follow her back into the hotel.

The guests yell at us when we enter the lobby. They all believe we're murderers. That we killed Olaf and now Dewey. Luckily, Justice Strauss manages to send them back to their rooms.
"Excuse me, Your Honor." One of the triplets speaks, hand gripping onto Olaf's arms forcefully. "I caught Count Olaf lurking in the hedges."
Justice Strauss glares at the evil man. "Lock him up until the trial." With a swish of her robes, she departs to her room.
"Oh, yes! Lock me up!" My eyes harden as he mimics the woman. "There might be decent, noble people here." He snorts and rolls his eyes.
"There are decent, noble people here." Klaus sneers. "V.F.D. is here."
Olaf's lips turn up into a smirk. "I see Ellis and your new friends have been keeping you in the dark." No, I haven't. I've told them everything I know. Well, maybe not everything. I haven't told them why my parents left. That they were once the leaders of the Resistance. "You think V.F.D. is noble? Think again. I bet your self righteous volunteers never told you what's in the sugar bowl, why it's important, or how it was stolen. But I could. Oh, the secrets I could share. About V.F.D., your parents." Olaf shakes his head. "You think you the story, but you don't even know how it begins."

It's been over an hour since our confrontation with Olaf. Poor Baudelaires. I already knew that V.F.D. couldn't be trusted. At least, I know I don't trust them. But they did. Their parents were loyal members. And to hear someone say they weren't noble, it must be awful.
Currently, I sit on the bathroom counter. Klaus wanted to help clean my wound. Hopefully it's not too deep and can be fine with some band-aids.
He runs cool water over a cloth, wringing it out a little before lifting it to my forehead. It stings at the first touch.
While he's doing this, my eyes inspect his face. The line between his brows is back. And I know why.
"Don't listen to Olaf." My voice is quiet. Violet and Sunny asleep in the living room. "He's not a trustworthy man."
Sighing, Klaus drops the cloth; now stained with my blood. "What did he mean? When he said you were keeping us in the dark?"
Right. "I was planning on telling you, but I couldn't wrap everything around. It was all so confusing." I tell him. I tell him how I had gotten sick and V.F.D. wouldn't help. How Olaf did. How my parents left and created the Resistance. How they double crossed Olaf and paid for it with their lives. "I wanted to tell you sooner...I just didn't know how."
He raises his hands, softly cradling my face. "So your parents were the founding members of the Resistance, I don't care. My parents weren't exactly perfect either." He chuckles quietly. "All I care about is you. I fell in love with you and who you are, not who your parents were." He leans in, our noses barely touching. "I love you, Ellis Gretchen King."
"And I love you, Klaus Baudelaire." My hands rest on his shoulders. "You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I would never be able to survive this without you."
Tried to add some more EllisxKlaus for y'all cause last chapter had like none.
Oh my gosh guys. We're getting close to the end 😭😭😭 I'm not prepared.
