Ava's pov
I couldn't believe the summer was over. It went so fast. Not that I minded really. I barely did anything over the summer. I was basically depressed the entire summer with a few occasional hookups and two party's. I hardly saw my friends. They were too busy in Spain and France, sitting on gorgeous yachts with their martinis in their hands, but they were my friends and I couldn't judge them. If I hadn't been depressed over summer break I probably would have joined them. The more I thought about school tomorrow the more sick I felt. First days are always hard but tomorrow will probably be the hardest day ever. My mom is dead and it makes me sad to think she won't be sending her yearly macaroons from Paris as a back to school gift. This summer my mom died. More like she killed herself actually. She overdosed on drugs in a bathroom at the Montè Hotel in Paris. They found her dead in a overfilled bathtub. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. My mother? Overdosed on drugs? I didn't even know she did drugs? Of course my father didn't care about my mother's death even though they had been married for 15 years. He didn't even come to the funeral. I haven't seen him since I found out she was dead. I have no idea where he is. So now it was just me. My father had stopped paying for the maids and the kitchen staff. I think he forgot that I still live here. It took a while to get used to. I had to do all my laundry and cook every meal I ate and did I mention the bills? Yeah not only did my father just leave but he left me with all this other crap to deal with! Like bills. Luckily I have money because he still funds me so I can buy food and actually live. Thanks dad. As I run on the sidewalk towards my house I watched the big mansions as the fly by me. I live in the biggest neighborhood in town. Every house it gigantic and I swear every house owns a Range Rover, but I can't really be saying much because I drive a Range Rover. My tennis shoes hit the ground with a crunch from the dead fall leaves on the ground. I make a right and run straight to my house. On my way up the driveway I grab the newspaper and run inside. I take out my earbuds as I shut the door and set my phone with my earbuds on the table. I open the newspaper to see a picture of my mom on the front. The title read "SINCLAIR'S OVERDOSE" I tossed the newspaper into the table by the door and slip off my shoes. People will do anything to get a story won't they. I walk down the hallway into the gigantic kitchen and open the fridge. I grabbed one of my pre-made smoothies I made this weekend and started drinking it. It was later in the day and I should be thinking about school and picking out what I'm wearing tomorrow but I'm not and school isn't even on my mind. In 30 minutes I have to be at a ballet class. After I drink my smoothie I run up the long marble staircase and down the long hallway and push open the double doors to my bedroom. It's a mess right now and I know I'm going to have to clean it up when I get home. I rush into my bathroom and step over the pile of overflowing clothes leading to my closet. I quickly change into my tights an leotard and slip on some sweatpants and a jacket. I grab my dance bag and put my hair up in a ponytail. Once I'm in my car I drive to the dance studio. On my way at red lights I pin my hair up in a bun. I finally arrive at the studio and I'm not late. I head in and greet the lady at the front desk and sign in. Olivia Harris is who I am when I come to the studio. I don't use my real name because I don't want them connecting me to my mom. I know it's stupid but dance is the only place I can be myself. I walk into the cold studio and set my things down. Other girls are stretching on the floor before the instructor comes in. I quickly put on my pointe shoes and stand up. I stretch my feet a little bit and then start stretching my legs. The instructor walks in and everyone gets up and finds a spot at the bar. I find a spot and start doing what the instructor tells us to do.
