Message and a Robot

Cole sat in his 'workroom,' which is more like a man cave. Cole didn't tell Kai about him being fired, but he didn't usually go into work on Fridays, so he was in the clear for now. 

Cole sat down at the desk; he looked through is suitcase before dumping everything into the trash. 

When something big thumped into the can, Cole stopped. He picked up the package and opened it. Inside was a tablet. 

Two words appeared on the screen starting small then getting more prominent. 

"Hold still?" Cole said aloud,

"Match Earth Ninja!" 

"Gah!" Cole dropped the tablet and took a step back. The tablet scanned the room. 

"Room is secure commence message,"

A woman appeared on the screen, she had white hair and wore all green. 

"Hello, Earth Ninja. Yes, we know who you are."

Cole picked up the tablet. 

"Rest assured your secret is safe with us. My name is Harumi. We have something in common, according to the government, neither of us exist. This message is classified and will not be repeated."

Cole quickly moved to the desk and started to write things down.

Harumi continued, "I represent a top secret division of the government. Made to design and test experimental technology and we need your unique ability. Something has happened at our remote testing facility. A highly experimental robot has escaped. Although it is contained within an isolated area, it threatens to do incalculable damage to itself and our facilities jeopardizing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of equipment and research. If you accept to help, your payment will be triple your current salary. Call the number on the card. Voice matching will be used to ensure security. The Ninja isn't gone Earth Ninja. You're still here; you can still do great things. Or you can listen to police scanners. You're choice. You have 24 hours to respond. Think about it,"

The screen went black, and Cole put his head in his hands thinking. He looked among the wall, where he had photos of his friends and himself saving the day over and over and over again. 

The Ipad beeped a card came out. Cole picked it up it read 'Harumi' and then a phone number. Suddenly it beeped faster, "This message will self-destruct!"

Cole's eyes widened, "Uh oh,"

There was a quiet boom, Cole coughed and went into the hallway. The fire alarm rang, and the sprinklers came on. 

"COLE!" Kai yelled, 

"WHOO!!!" Jasper yelled, 

Iris was laughing, and Phoneix was groaning.

-Later-

Kai watched as Cole used a hair dryer to dry some of the books that had gotten wet.

Kai walked, "You are one distracted guy,"

Cole looked up, "hmm? Oh! Am I? I don't mean to be,"

Kai put a hand on Cole's back, "I know you miss being a hero, so do I, and your job is hard, and I just want you to know how much it means to me, that you stay at it anyway." 

Kai kissed Cole, when Kai went back to the laundry, Cole cleared his throat. 

"Honey, about the job..."

"What?" Kai asked kindly,

"Something happened,"

"What?" Kai asked more sternly,
