The weeks leading up to the charity event were hectic, I was thankful Mr. Schofield gave me off the afternoons to make arrangements for the ball. Jenny and I visited potential venues and tasted different catering businesses' specialties. All the places we went to were beautiful and the food was to die for. I didn't know how I was ever going to decide, but about a week from the actual event, we finally came to a decision.

On the day of the event, my two friends decided to drag me out to get a gown since I didn't own one. We ended up at one of the most expensive places in town that sold both women and men formal wear.

"Guys, I can't afford this place" I half whispered to Madison and Hailey.

"Don't worry about it" Madison smiled, "we'll help you."

"Yeah! we can split it three ways" Hailey chimed, "we'll make it an early birthday present!"

After agreeing with them, I browsed through many racks of gowns trying to find the perfect dress and the least expensive. Picking three of them off the rack, I headed to the dressing room to try them on.

"So which one do you like?" I asked my friends.

"Well...which one do you like?" questioned Hailey.

"Yep, it's up to you" Madison replied with a wink and a smile.

Thinking to myself, I decided to get the black gown. It wasn't as fancy as the others. Which was more my style. I didn't like to bring a lot of attention to myself so, I didn't need all the sparkling glamour the other dresses had. The one I chose was all black and even though it was pretty plain to most. It was perfect for me. The fit was perfect in showing just the right curves. Plus it was the cheapest.

The lady at the counter was an older lady, probably in her thirties. She gave me a smile as she put the gown in large bag with the stores logo on it. Handing me the bag she said, "You have a nice day, young lady or should I say nice evening."

Giving her a puzzled look, "Wait, aren't you going to ring me up?"

"It's already been paid for," she answered with a wink.

"By who?" I inquired.

"I was told not to say," she said turning to help another customer.

Still stunned on what just happened, I had no clue to who or why someone would do such a thing. Interrupting my thoughts I heard Hailey shrieked, "Oh my God! You have a secret admirer!"

"I do not," I said, glaring at Hailey to be quieter.

"Then how else can you explain someone buying your dress for you," she remarked.

"I don't know," I said blankly.

"Lets not worry about that for now," Madison grinned. "How about we go and get you ready for this ball."

Heading home, I still wondered about who would do this for me. Not that I don't appreciate it since I really couldn't afford it. Even splitting the cost three ways was a little to much for me at the moment. But honestly, who in their right mind would fork out three hundred dollars on a dress for someone they didn't know.
