{Hazel's POV}
"Let me check their legs before you leave," I heard Madame Pomfrey say as Frank and I neared the Hospital Wing.
"We really have to get going, Madame Pomfrey. Frank and Hazel are coming up with the Portkey now," Will answered. I opened the door.
"Hey, everyone, sorry we're late," Frank waved.
"Fine. If you insist. But don't blame me when Mx. Jackson is in pain later." Madame Pomfrey moved into her office.
"You good, Percy?" Will asked. They nodded. "Let's get going, then." Nico held his hand out to Jason.
"Reyna, you'll stand in between Hazel and I. Everyone else, it doesn't matter where you are, so long as we're all touching." I pulled Frank next to me and took Reyna's hand. Thalia and Annabeth stood on either side of Percy, linked with Piper and Will. Clarisse was on Frank's other side, with Calypso and Leo.
"We'll see you after break, Madame Pomfrey!" Will called over his shoulder. "Hazel, pull out the Portkey." I grabbed the fake Portkey from my pocket.
"Three, two, one..." And the hospital wing faded around us into darkness.
"They're back!" We had landed in the middle of camp, Annabeth and Thalia grabbing Percy before they could fall into the dirt.
"How's the magical school?"
"What's up with Percy?"
"The engagement party is planned and ready to go!" People had started talking all at once.
"Move everyone, please, let them through," Chiron said.
"We need to get Percy to the infirmary," Will said, lowly. "I can't believe we didn't think of putting them in their chair." The crowd didn't clear, but it did part, allowing Will to go ahead while Annabeth pushed Percy's chair. Whispers were spreading quickly, and anyone who couldn't see what was going on would know soon enough.
"What's going on with Percy?" Chiron asked quietly, shutting the infirmary doors.
"Several curses, sir, that resulted in shattered leg bones and damaged nerves. We're growing back the bones now, but I'm uncertain as to if their nerves will ever be fully healed."
"Meaning?"
"Right now, Percy cannot feel their legs. If a dip in the lake heals them, great. The recovery process isn't as long. If not, there's likely nothing that be done, apart from godly intervention, to undo the nerve damage."
"Will means that I'm likely to be in a wheelchair for life," Percy said. "I know we like our wordplay in the common room, Thalia, but this isn't something we need to dance around." Thalia sighed.
"He's right. Everyone's going to talk anyway. I'd like to spend time teaching Percy how to fight while in the chair, just in case."
"Of course, Thalia. But I do want to make sure--" Will started.
"We can test the lake idea out tonight, Will," Percy said. "I would like to train."
"Do you feel up to training? You were still unconscious not too long ago."
"I do. You can check me over first, if you like."
"Fine. The rest of you don't need to be here for this, go unpack or something." Will said absently. "Percy and I will be out in a few minutes." I tugged on Frank's hand gently.
"Come on. I want to find out what's been planned for the party." I grinned up at him, brushing my hair out of my face. Surely there were charms for such things? I'd look them up back at school.
"We'll meet you at the arena," I told Thalia.
"Frank, don't forget that we have to go to New Rome at some point over break. Iris messages are great, but there are a few things we really should handle in person."
"Of course, Reyna." Frank nodded to her. "Let's find out when the party is, and if it's not too soon, we can leave today." Reyna hummed her acknowledgement and we left.
"Where are we going?" Frank asked.
"The Hades cabin. I do want to change." Robes were fine in Hogwarts, but I didn't want to wear them here. Maybe I should stop wearing them at all.
"I'll run to the Ares cabin, then. Meet you at the Aphrodite cabin?"
"Sounds great." I reached up and kissed him on the cheek before skipping off to my cabin. No one stopped me to ask about Percy, so I made it across camp fairly quickly.
"Hazel?" Nico asked.
"Behind the curtain!"
"I'm glad I don't have to change." I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"Just because you don't obey the rules doesn't mean I have to. Did anyone ask you about Percy?"
"No. I thought was odd, I don't think anyone got asked. Did you find anything out about the party?"
"Not yet, I'm meeting Frank at the Aphrodite cabin." I shoved the curtain to one side.
"Piper and Jason are getting the arena ready," Nico said. "It looks like it's going to be a fun fight."
"I'm sure everyone will want to see it." I agreed. "Wait a second.... You want to sneak around and look through stuff, don't you?"
"I do. There are a few pranks Percy's asked me to help set up to get back at the Stoll brothers. You can run interference with the Aphrodite and Hermes cabin."
"Why Hermes?"
"Travis and Connor are actually really good at planning, so they probably helped."
"Fair enough. Am I allowed to know what the pranks are?"
"You'll see." I decided that Nico's smile said I didn't want to know more, so I dropped it.
"Are you going to get started right away?"
"No, I think I'll wait, spread the word about the fight first. I'll walk with you." Nico held the door. Frank was standing outside the Aphrodite cabin with an odd expression on his face.
"Gotten anything?" I asked.
"No, they won't let me inside right now. They'll talk to you, though."
"Maybe you should go with Nico and tell everyone about the fight. I'll fill you in on the party later." I wanted to go back to New Rome, too. I knocked on the door.
"Hazel, if you're here, come in!" Someone-- Lacy, I thought-- called. I opened the door.
"Here to find out about the party?"
"Of course. And there's a fight on today. Piper's setting up the arena now."
"Who's fighting?" Lacy asked.
"Percy and Thalia. It should be interesting."
"Percy's in a wheelchair, how can they fight?" Drew snorted. "I bet Clarisse ends up taking their place, or Annabeth."
"Why is Percy in a wheelchair?" Lacy's eyes were wide.
"That's for them to tell you. And Percy seemed determined about fighting Thalia. It's bound to be interesting, at the least."
"Well, I want to see it." Lacy grinned at me. "Thalia was helping me last time she was here." Others began to chime their agreement, and I grinned.
"While we walk, you can tell me about the party. Frank and Reyna need to the know date and time, anyway."
"So they can go check up on New Rome, right?" Drew asked. I nodded.
"We can tell you that. It's in three days, on Wednesday, and starts at five in the evening." Lacy said. "Since we're going to be walking to the fight, everything else can wait."
"Does Piper get to know about the party? Or Percy and Annabeth?"
"We were going to go over it with the two of them tonight and make any necessary changes," Lucy assured me. "But the fight's waiting, so let's go already!" I laughed and followed her out the door, the rest of the cabin trailing behind me.
"What were you all doing in your cabin in the middle of the day?" I asked. Chiron didn't usually let that happen.
"We were getting Piper's bunk fixed up. With her gone, we kinda dumped a bunch of stuff on it and made a mess..." Lucy scratched her head as she trailed off.
"I see." I didn't get why they would need the whole cabin for that.
"Hey, come on!" A younger camper ran up to us. "You know about the fight? They're starting now!"
"We'll tell you more about the party when we get there." Drew drawled. "But this is bound to be interesting, so let's move it!" The cabin fell into a light jog. She was right. What with the prank, the fight, the party.... this break was going to be one for the books.
Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you didn't mind the wait, I meant to get this up in December but unfortunately what with bowling and my schoolwork it didn't happen. Please comment your thoughts and what you would like to see more of: The prank(s)-- also, prank ideas would be great, I rarely ever pull pranks--, the party, or the fight. Thanks for reading,
Phoenix
