Chapter Sixteen

Two weeks have passed.

Two very long weeks. Time goes so slow when you're waiting, doesn't it?

We continued to visit Katrina every day, but her condition seemed to get worse. She got paler and paler, and her hair was falling, and her lips were cracking and... and... you get the picture.

She doesn't deserve any of this.

Adrian still hung out with Evangeline, but you can easily tell that he wanted to hang out with us more. Whenever we go out for coffee, or play in the park, or perform on the streets for... what did Miss Higgins call it? Exposure?

Anyways, he'd look longingly at us with Evangeline's arm crooked through his.

And if he wasn't looking, I'd be the one looking longingly at him.

It was a never ending cycle.

By the way, the last part of the music competition was postponed due to the Winter Formal, and probably to give us more time to practice since it was the final part after all.

"Winter Formal... what to wear, what to wear?" Chelsea chanted over and over again on a boring day.

"My sister gave me money to buy a dress," Lizzie spoke up, "Why don't we go buy a dress?"

And there we were, roaming the mall, looking for a dress to buy.

Lizzie saw a knee-length, baby pink gown that suited her perfectly.

Chelsea picked out a floor-length, teal gown with a criss-cross strap.

I thumbed through rows and rows of gowns to see which one is right for me. Visited stores and stores to see which one is right for me. Went up floors and floors to see which one is right for me.

Which one Adrian would like on me.

And finally, I found it.

It was a white strapless gown with gem designs and a layered skirt. I ran my fingers through the delicate fabric and I loved it.

I raised it to let Lizzie and Chelsea see, and they gave me a two thumbs up.

We tried on the gowns, walked around in them and paid for them. We had a good laugh as we went down to Kaffe Alde like Chelsea and I used to when we were younger. We have Lizzie now, but that's just as fine.

Lizzie was now opening up to us, her confidence improved.

"Innes and I will be going to the Winter Formal together," she told us as we sipped our lattes.

"Wow. I thought you two had problems," Chelsea said.

"Yeah, but we fixed that up," Lizzie said happily and smiled. That was the most dazzling smile I've ever seen.

"So, who you are you going with Chels?" I asked.

"I'm going with Chaz. He's really cool," she said proudly. "How about you?"

"Oh, I don't know," I twirled my straw and then my cellphone vibrated. I picked it up. "Hello Carter... What? No, nothing. I'm just chilling with Lizzie and Chelsea... Meet you at the park? Sure... Yeah... Bye."

"Was that Carter?" Chelsea asked.

"Yeah. Is it OK if I leave you guys for a while? He said he wanted to talk to me." I asked for permission.

"Sure, sure. What do you know? Maybe he might ask you out to the Winter Formal," Chelsea joked.

"Oh come off it," I laughed and went to the park.
