THIS. IS. IT.
I got into my pink frilly dress in a heart-infused kind of style.
My hands were shaking as I held my violin.
I looked to my right and saw that Lizzie broke out into a nervous sweat while telling her brother what to do.
"Here, this is how you pause it..." She pointed to a button on her video camera.
"Why do we need this again?" her brother, Jonathan, asked.
"Katrina, Chelsea and Chaz can't attend and they want to see us so... there," Lizzie smiled.
"Fine, fine. Meet you after the competition," he hugged his sister and went out the backstage.
Carter was fixing his bowtie while Innes played around with his trumpet.
Again, Adrian was nowhere to be seen and an unsettling feeling decided to settle in my stomach.
What if something wrong happened again?"Jazz," a voice said behind me.
"Oh, hi Carter," I smiled, trying to hide my nervousness.
"Where's Adrian?" he asked.
And as if on cue, he arrived like nothing happened.
"Adrian!" I hugged him, "Where have you been?"
"Hospital," he told me, "I visited Katrina and gave her a teddy bear and I went to check on Chaz and Chelsea. They were having a really 'great' time there,"
"Oh. I was starting to get worried," I laughed nervously.
"Everything's OK now," he assured me.
"Forgetting someone?" Carter asked, annoyed.
"Oh, sorry," I apologized, forgetting all about him since Adrian arrived.
Then Miss Higgins voice came blasting out the speakers.
"Ladies and gentlemen! I welcome you to the Final Score of our school's Music Competition. Now four our panel of judges, our one and only Principal, Mr. Thomas Bournes!"
A round of applause was heard.
"Our Vice Principal, Ms. Olivia Rockwood!"
Another round of applause.
"And of course, the ever talented Music Head, Mr. Jake Blackthorne!"
The loudest round of applause was heard for our music teacher. A hot twenty-five year old with the highschool girls chasing after him. I bet he's got lots of Valentine's cards and flowers.
"As we all know, one of our contestants, Charles Loughlin, was injured in a practice game, narrowing our contestants to only six. And as we all now, there will be a prize for the winner: a handful of money and a scholarship to the college og choice," Miss Higgins spoke loud and clear.
"OK, now I'm nervous," Adrian declared.
"I've been since this morning," I gave his hand a little squeeze as Lizzie came to my side, squeezed my hand while holding Innes' hand tightly in the other.
"Good luck to all of you," Innes grinned.
"Same to you, redhead," Carter smiled and looked at the center stage.
"Now, ladies and gentlemean, may I introduce to you our first contestant: Carter Sorensen with his enticing flute playing. A round of applause everyone!" Miss Higgins announced.
"Good luck to me," Carter gave a low whistle as he went out to the stage.
He put his flute to his lips and played a very lovely tune: Thaïs Meditation by J. Massenet.
