Chapter 1: Marcus' Big Favour

Just minutes ago, I got a call from my brother Marcus. He's not younger nor older than me in vast years: Marcus is my twin bro. We may be born at the same time, but I was technically two minutes older than him (cos' I was pulled out first)

Anyways, whenever I get a call from him, it's always the same category: a favour to ask. Marcus was one of those guys that are really busy, doesn't go drinking much and spends his time in the computer rather than girls. Our family is kind of like that... Well we have no family clearly.

My parents passed away years ago, when I was around 18. Luckily we were quite wealthy; we managed to get good jobs and a university. Now I'm living in a flat with my two best friends: Aria and Hazel.

On with the subject, this time: his call was different. By the tone of Marcus' voice, he seemed that he was in a rush (like always).

This is how it went:

"Hello?" I first said.

"It's me Marcus," It was obvious it was my brother.

I then replied back, "Now what do you want me to do? I know you want to ask me."

He said: "Not this time, I mean... Asking you at the phone. Why I called was because I'm now coming round yours in half an hour."

"What, you’re driving now? Here?" I interrupted by his sudden speech.

"Yeah... Bye sis." I was about to say something until he had hung off, like always. So in half an hour from then on, he was on the way to my place. I wonder what he needs. I bet it's one of those big favours. Once he asked me if I can fill in his job: I mean... I know he wasn't lazy to go in, but it was a bit too much.

So, to kill some time: I decided to tidy the place a bit. It was the weekend - and I only work on weekdays - so I had the flat by myself. I changed into a more casual wear and looked at the clock to see it had been 20 minutes since the call. And unexpectedly, I heard a knock on the door. I went to open it to see Marcus rudely walking in without saying anything.

I put my hands on my hips and said, “Well hello to you.” He flopped onto the sofa and wiped his forehead with his hand. To my guessing, he sped here like some Formula 1 racer. Marcus seemed really desperate.

“Sorry Stephanie...” He spoke. “I’m running a bit late that’s why... I’m not staying long: just around 10 minutes.” As he relaxed for a bit, I turn on the kettle and plucked a random mug from the cupboard for his coffee. I put my head on my hands and looked at him.

“So what’s the big ‘favour’ you wanted me to do,” I sarcastically exclaimed and he straightened his back from a relaxing posture, “Must be important if you’re here.”

The kettle had finished heating up, so I took a teaspoon and put two spoons of coffee and one sugar for him. Pouring the hot water in, I heard his footsteps come closer towards the kitchen; hearing the fridge door open. He must be getting the milk. As I stirred the spoon in the mug, I gave it to Marcus for him to pour as much milk he wanted. While he did so, I prepared another mug of coffee for myself as he started his. After a few minutes of silence, Marcus explained his situation.

“I got a promotion from a company I used to work months ago,” He started. “And they said they’re desperate for me to come back for at least a month,”

I raised an eyebrow and stopped drinking from my mug. “So what are you completely saying then?”

“Let me finish,” I roll my eyes at him and he replied, “But... I got an email from another company – the Yogscast – saying I got the job as an editor. But my job starts at the same date as my monthly promotion.” Raising my hand, I twist my wrist around as a ‘carry on’ sign to him.

He asked, “I want to fill me in, and not just coming in as yourself. Can you disguise yourself as me?”

Next, I spat the coffee from my mouth out.

“Say what?!” I shouted. “Are you crazy?!” He flinched slightly from my sudden change of tone.

“What, it’s an idea isn’t it?” Marcus asked. “Please Stephanie, I’ve been waiting for months to get a promotion, and it might change our lives for the better.” As he explained, I placed my empty mug in the sink and sighed.

I mumbled, “I don’t Marcus... will it even work?” Firstly, his plan is kind of in the ‘coo-coo’ side. It was insane: disguising myself as my own twin brother?! ‘We’re not 10 Marcus’ I thought to myself while I walked up to Marcus. He looked at me with pleading eyes.

“Please? They haven’t seen me yet: I had only emailed them and stuff.” He explained further on about the plan. “And, you’ve taken a computing course: so you know how to edit videos and such.” I couldn’t bear to think about it, having not enough energy to fight back: so I agreed and said yes. Marcus pulled me into a hug quickly and gave me the mug.

Before he left he shouted, “Oh yeah: doesn’t Aria and Hazel know the Yogscast?”

“Yeah...they’re fans: why?” I asked.

He hesitantly replied, “It’s because I know the member’s names. You’ll probably need help from them. Oh! And also, here’s the spare key and papers you’ll need at your first day.” He tossed all of them at once to me; and I gave him a confused look why I needed a key.

“Why do I need all of this?” I questioned.

Marcus answered: “Uhh... I kind of agreed that I’m staying with a bunch of guys in one house for work.” It was then I couldn’t stand a chance and shout at him.

“Hey! I am not staying with a bunch of gamer men in one house...” I didn’t finish my sentence as he waved goodbye and closed the door in a hurry.

Oh great... now what.

I dropped the stuff that Marcus gave me onto the coffee table and picked up my phone. Then – after a couple of rings: she had picked up.

“Hey Steph: what do you need? I’m kind of busy.”

I relied, “Hey Aria: can you finish work early today?”

“Yes... why?” She asked back.

“My brother came round... and he asked me to do something.”

“And?” Aria trailed off for me to ask;

“You know the Yogscast right?”
