Chapter 2: Best Friend are the Best

For the rest of the day, I had spent it by reading the papers Marcus had given me; researched and practiced some editing with old videos I had stored over the past couple of years. At the end of reading the last sentence, I sighed heavily and relaxed from my posture. As I did: I took my black- rimmed glasses and propped them onto the table.

One of the most annoying things about reading, and almost everything: I have to wear glasses. Marcus had the better gift of seeing things more clearly. As was I: all I can see without them are a blur.

Then, I heard the door open and the sound of two pairs of feet walking into the room.

“Hey Steph,” I saw Aria wave as she dropped her bags onto the floor beside her. Hazel was with her as well, passing out onto the other sofa. I stretch to get my glasses on, while Aria had also sat down beside me. I could finally see them both clearly: who were both looking tired as always.

“So...” Aria huffed. “What do you need to know about the Yogscast? Not only because they are the BEST!” All of a sudden, Hazel shot up like a plant and squealed: so loud my ears could pop.

“Ahhh! I love them!” Wow... they might be the biggest fans I can ever encounter. Of course I knew they loved them: but I didn’t know they were ‘hardcore’ mode? Hazel then started rambling about almost everything about them. Her voice was going so fast, Aria had enough but slap her mouth shut.

“Hazel, that’s too much fangirling right there.” Aria said and Hazel muffled something that we couldn’t clearly hear. “Oh yeah... sorry.” Aria took her hand from Hazel mouth as I laughed slightly.

“Okay...” I started. “Marcus went round and said I need to fill in his job as an editor for the Yogscast.” Then came to the weird part of the favour: “He says I need to dress and be him: or else he won’t get the job.” The two looked at me like they just saw Slender.

What I wasn’t expecting was the room to be filled with fangirling screams.

Welp... Best friends are the best.

“I can’t believe it!” Aria exclaimed.

Hazel spoke, “You are going to work for the Yogscast?!” I tried to calm them down, only giving them a chance to squeal for a bit before it came to the serious part.

“So... will you guys help me? I mean...” I said, “Learn about them and be a boy?” I saw them both give themselves a glance. The two then jumped up and tackled me to a hug on the floor. It was breathless (literally) but it gave me hope.

---

I focus more clearly through my glasses as Hazel pointed some skewer stick on her makeshift white board (which was actually the television (we just connected our laptop to it)). It was already 7: we each finished our bowl of Chinese food Aria cooked while Hazel taught me the basics of being a boy... or man.

I don’t know?!

“Stephanie!” I shook my head out of trance when Hazel napped at me.

I mumbled, “You don’t have to snap at me like that.” She glared back and I gave her an innocent smile back. We would often be angry at each other, but it wasn’t a ‘permanent’ hate. It was just a joke around the three of us. She then repeated the last thing she explained about: which was how men act around other men. It looked quite easy, but it was the polar opposite.

While I try and think of answer to Hazel’s question, I turned to my right to see Aria sitting down beside me on the sofa: curling her legs from the evening temperature. We already changed to our sleepwear, which didn’t change how cold it was.

Aria told to Hazel, “I think we have enough talk about how to be a boy. Let’s talk about the boys you’re going to meet! And by that I mean: all of the Yogscast are almost boys!”

I widen my eyes and said, “What? I didn’t know about that?”

“Don’t worry Steph,” Hazel spoke while seating on the floor beside her laptop (which was the one that was connected to the TV). “There are some girly girls there.” I sighed in relief and threw my head back from the achiness. I flip it back to see Hazel typing something onto her laptop. After the computer buffered a bit: I looked at the TV to see what website she had put on.

“The Yogscast Wiki website,” Aria read out: “A Yognaughts information book to be exact.” I took of my glasses and wiped it with my baggy night top while I heard Hazel scroll and click multiple times before she said anything else.

“So this is Lewis Brindley,” I looked at the screen to see a man with dark – almost black – hair style in a quiff. He wore thin- framed glasses and a personalised top (I guess by their company). Hazel further said, “Age 30 and the co-founder of the Yogscast.”

“So he’s my boss then?” Aria nodded to my question and added.

“He’s also in a relationship with also a co-worker: Hannah Rutherford.” Aria spoke while Hazel put up a picture of who was Hannah. She was quite pretty: blonde hair and blue eyes. “And, he has a sister that works in the building: Pippa Brindley.” Hazel quickly typed her name on the search bar and showed a woman: probably two years younger than me. She was just like her brother: dark brown hair neatly tied back and piercing green eyes.

After, we then looked up on the other members for me to familiarise on their faces. I learned Simon Lane, was Lewis’ best friend and co-founder. Next, we looked up on Duncan Jones: who was one of the ‘big’ members: with having the third most subscribed channel in the Yogscast community. Paul Sykes was next on Aria’s list, or known mostly as Sjin (pronounced as Shin in Hazel and Aria’s sake).

“He’s dating an artist called Erin Wong.” Hazel popped in. “But before, he was dating one of the co-workers: Anya, or Minty she’s preferred.” Out of curiosity, I asked them about the subject.

“I haven’t seen Anya yet,” Hazel typed her name next and showed a woman with very blonde hair – almost white – with sky blue eye.

Aria spoke, “She’s the head of the administration, does the fan mail and emails from Yognaughts.” I nodded in silence as Hazel went to scroll down to a list of names. As she did so, I took the papers again from the table and flicked to get the one with about the boys I’m staying with. They were called: Hatfilms, three men who play games for a living.

“Can you guys show me Hatfilms?” I spoke, reading out ‘Hatfilms’ slowly. Hazel typed quickly as Aria and I fidgeted on the sofa.

Aria pointed out, “Hatfilms are awesome... and tall.” Hazel nodded and sighed.

“Aww! They’re so cute, look at them!” Then, the screen showed three people: One with Black hair, the other brown and the one in the far left had ginger. While Aria pointed at each person: she called out her names.

“The one on the right is Chris Trott, or Trott he’s called by.” Aria further said. “The one in the middle is Ross Hornby: likes to say ‘eat sh*t’ often.” I chuckled at her remark and answered and pointed to the one on the left.

“So who’s the ginger guy?” I asked.

Hazel spoke instead. “Oh him? He’s Alex Smith. Or Alsmiffy or Smithy he’s mostly called by his friend.” It felt like I was staring at his picture for eternity. He looked... cute? I don’t know?! Does love at first sight count?

“Stephanie!” I was cut off my trance by a close-up Aria shouting at me. Shaking my head, I stopped staring at the picture of Alex Smith. I can’t fall for my co-worker, let alone I’m going to be disguised as my brother. But somehow, I feel he’s one of those guys that you can’t stop thinking about.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just overreacting.

“I’m fine,” I just plainly said. After the drama had happened, I sat still in silence as Hazel showed me more of the members.
