Hey! SierraOwls here and this is bit short and took me a while to write it up. Also, see how much 'awkward' s I wrote up and comment it down. I just think I repeated it too much... Enjoy :)
Chapter 5: Awkward
It’s been a week already... and I’m exhausted! The whole day of hours were the same, recited again and again and again. Living with the boys were also a surprise since they usually stay up all night; mostly drink or/and play GTA but It became normal by now. I got used to the ‘style of editing’, the painful echoes of shouting and the amount of times I nearly get spilt of coffee by Anya in the mornings.
My little friendship with Minty became a little too much awkward at me. She definitely liked me more than friends, but she wasn’t the high school b*tch type: like the one in the train I had encountered. Her voice is very caring and cautious; she lightens up the mood... and does the mail for all of the Yogscast members. Sometimes when I had time, when I’m not spending it on a computer screen or talking with the other editors such as Tom Bates and Colin, I would sometimes help Anya with it.
However, you may be asking why I was doing this: and I’m not ‘like liking’ her. (A/n: I support people who are Gay and Lesbians, please do not be offended if you are reading this. This is just for the story.) It was like a favour for Marcus that’s all. And yes I was her twin sister who mocks him because he has no girlfriend and needs one, but still... So as a result, I’m trying to get him a girlfriend as an option.
Anyways, around Saturday onwards: the whole building was quite quiet now. Some of the members went to a convention – Minecon maybe? They said they won’t be here until next week, meaning I was with only: Hatfilms, Area11; the editors and Playstation3 Access along with the artists and admins. Not being nosy but, I heard Lola and Pippa – before they went to California - having a conversation in the kitchenette. One of them was sounding a bit stressed out as the other was trying to comfort the other. Their voices were so alike that I didn’t even know who was who (I was listening outside, trying not to be spotted).
Maybe that as why Lola’s impression towards me was a bit to ‘not welcoming’ I suppose, she was a bit to stressed out when she was looking at me. Anyways, I fiddled with the volume of one of their videos as they were doing another recording of Minecraft. They once asked me if I’d played the big sandbox game before. I just shook my head: saying after that I don’t own an account. My brother might not even know what Minecraft is, probably because he’s so busy all the time.
“You should get it,” Ross insisted to me while talking about it. “You can join us in our series.”
“Yeah you should,” Smith piped in while he took his headset off. “The fans are waiting to see the new editor we hired.” It was too tempting to say yes and play, not because I was a boy and needed to play games but it was a chance to have fun for once.
But I had to say no to the little deal they gave me. Each of them had a sad look tearing through them, making me feel a bit sorry. Instead of being silent, I explained that I was too busy outside of work: and if I had too many occupations to work on, I wouldn’t have time to do the things that are important.
At least they understood the concept: also sounds legit.
After the little talk two days ago about the gaming stuff, the Hat trio decided for me to bring their fan mail to the office from the P.O Box they have – via sharing the Yogscast P.O Box. My life had become harder now since I had to walk there with Minty. And yes it was awkward; and yes it was hard to not say: ‘I’m sorry, but I’m actually a girl trying to pretend to be this person who is my twin brother’.
It was actually right now they told me to walk there. Anya had finished scanning through tons of emails in the forums and the main Yogscast email account and I had finished another 6 videos of SHATBlocks for Hatfilms. The whole corridor was still quiet due to lack of Yog members. A sound of creaking door faintly echoed to my ears as I saw Anya’s head peer out and smile at me. Smiling back, she walked out and we both exited the building.
Coldness crawled up my skin as we walked through the streets of Bristol. It was rather cold today, but the sun was still there: just hiding underneath the grey; grim clouds that looked like candyfloss, but accidently food coloured. I did not dare to talk to Minty; I didn’t know why I chose it that way. Probably because I didn’t wanted to cause trouble to Marcus? And with the subject of him, he never called me during the last week. Numerous times I tried to call him but prevailed because he was exactly ‘too busy’ with his promotion.
My body was hunched up to try and make myself look boyish when I either walk or sit on my chair. I got use to also being sloppy eating my food – trying not to sit up straight – and having a shower for the shortest amount of time. Difficult was the word to describe every single thing I needed to do, and it was.
So, I walked beside Anya until we arrived in front of the post office. We entered in and were greeted by a long line of people for the Posting and Sending line. Keeping quiet, I let Anya in front of me and we waited until the queue decreased until it was only us left. The Yogscast P.O Box was filled with boxes and boxes of letters, a few bigger cardboard boxes and tubes. Most of the fan mail was usually Martyn’s Inthelittlebox series – as Anya told me, some were for Hannah and a very rare fan mail for Lewis and Simon.
I was up next, and all I had was just two boxes filled with letters and other things that are mysterious. We thanked the lady behind the desk and the two of us left the post office with boxes.
“We should have brought a car or something,” Anya spoke as she almost dropped the boxes in her hands. I laughed as she struggled and I helped her with a few boxes.
“Sorry, I don’t drive sadly.” I said with a low voice.
Anya replied, “It’s alright – I don’t either.” She stopped for a sudden and sighed. “This is the biggest load we had since ages ago!” Getting back up again, we crossed the road and turned around the corner where you can a glimpse of Yogtowers behind the many buildings hiding it.
I was just a few feet further from Minty until I saw her trip accidently. Everything was like slow motion, like from a movie I guess. My instincts occurred: making me put my boxes down quickly and grab her before she hits the cold concrete. The boxes she was carrying was hopefully not fragile, but almost everything fell out of it
I grabbed her just in time in my arms and things were definitely awkward.
You know those cheesy movies when the man catches the girl and the two stare in each other’s eyes?
It might’ve been like that to Minty.
But definitely not ME!
She was staring at me for at least 10 seconds until I snapped her out of trance, got her back to her feet.
“Sorry about that: I’m a clutz... again.” She giggled slightly. I had to do a fake laugh to not make it more awkward. After picking up the letters and slipping it into the boxes, we arrived 2 minutes later in front of Yogtowers.
We went into separate ways when we entered the corridor. However, all I had stuck in my mind of how awkward that was.
Marcus... where the hell are you?
