Shane has been progressively more and more worried. There are so many spirits. He hadn't seen so many before at a location. But he shakes off the feeling of being watched and continues to call the ghosts 'cowards' and 'stupid heads'. He has to keep Ryan laughing and not worrying. 'Cause it would be a disaster if Shane actually acknowledged the fact that something supernatural was happening. Like while they were exploring the chapel, the doors swung open so strongly that it left a dent in the wall. Thankfully, Shane managed to convince Ryan that the dent was there before, "I saw it when we walked in!" Shane laughs. "You gotta pay more attention to your surroundings, man!"
Shower cages. That was a close one. A ghost came running towards Ryan and it took all of Shane's power not to grab that ghost's fucking neck and send him to hell where he belongs. Of course, Ryan got a spook and said, "I got so cold Shane! I swear, it was a ghost!" Shane just laughed it off, and he guesses it wasn't a really good fake laugh, since Ryan gave him a weird look. But, at least the ghosts in the shower cages sensed his anger and left him, Ryan and their cameraman alone for the rest of the investigation.
The Death Row got even worse. The more the boys explore the area, the more the ghosts get aggressive. Shane just can't get this sense of a higher power, a dangerous one, stalking them. It's driving him crazy, every time he senses It he tries to get Ryan to go faster so they can leave sooner. What had happened was, the so-called 'Shadow Man' showed up on the wall that Ryan was leaning against. It tried to grab his shoulder. Of course, Ryan jumped and screamed, (in a very manly way thank you very much) and claimed something touched his shoulder. Shane just said he's delusional and when Ryan calmed down and saw Shane's expression, they left.
"Getting spooked Shane? Are you finally coming to your senses and becoming a Boogara?" Ryan teases him as he tries to push Ryan through the door to leave.
"Heh...no way! It's just so boring that I wanna keep going! These ASSHATS can't scare ME! They are COWARDS that can GET LOST!" He yells back into the room and closes the door.
Next is the Sugar Shack. Shane has high hopes for this place since it sounds nice. Turns out it isn't nice at all. Dirty, stinky, stains everywhere and lots of graffiti. "Why did they call it the sugar shack if it doesn't have anything sweet to it?" Shane asks, holding a hand to his nose to block the smell of musk. Ryan snickers and covers his mouth as well. He never answers Shane's question...Oh well. There are many ghosts here. Some are aggressive, some aren't but as Shane and Ryan explore the area, the ghosts get more and more agitated. "Freaking spirits..." Shane mutters.
"What was that Shane?" Ryan asks. Oh. He said it out loud. Oops. Thank Lucifer Ryan is a few feet ahead and didn't hear what he said.
"I said that these freaking spirits are wasting our time!" He says and shakes his head for good measure. Ryan rolls his eyes and keeps walking, flashing his flashlight side to side, looking for ghoulies. Shane suddenly gets pushed to the floor. Ryan jumps and quickly flashes his light on a groaning Shane lying face first on the ground.
"Shane!" He rushes over to Shane and quickly looks around. "Did you get pushed? Are you okay? Did you get it on camera? Do you need help?"
Shane just gets up and says, laughing and rubbing his hurting knee, "Ry, I just fell. It's fine!"
Ryan looks scared, upset, unsure and worried. "Are you sure you're okay? Looks like your knee hurts."
Shane rubs it some more and says, "Nah, I'm good." Ryan reaches up and brushes some dust from Shane's shoulders. Shane feels his face heat up and he tries to stay calm.
"Don't want you getting dirty now, don't we?" Ryan says and smiles.
"I-uh, ye-ah?" His sentence ends as a question. But Ryan laughs and it's all worth it. When Ryan's out of earshot, Shane growls out, "Don't do it to him. Just do it to me."
Lastly, they explore the North Wagon Gate. It's the most infested place yet. Every corner that Shane turns, he is greeted with the spirits of the not-so-poor souls that got hanged in the building. They have ugly bruises and dried blood everywhere, but mostly around their necks.
One time, when the two men were investigating narrow hallways on their, making it ten times creepier without their trusted cameraman, Shane let his guard down a bit too much and as he and Ryan turned a corner, a huge, buff ghost with blood dripping from a long gash all the way around his neck jump-scared Shane. The ghost started reaching for Ryan and Shane couldn't help but notice the way his friend looked towards him, eyes wide.
"Can you feel that?" Ryan asks, and slightly shivers.
Shane just turns so he's standing directly in front of Ryan. He tries his best to not think of how close they are; they're almost touching. "Come on," he says. "Let's get outta here. I don't like the feel of this place."
Ryan's expression turns from one of surprise to knowing. "You're not scared, are you, Madej?" Ryan smirks, taking a step back, and out of Shane's personal space, much to Shane's disappointment.
As much as he hates for Ryan to think so, Shane says, "If I say yes, will it convince you to leave?" The only thing he can't admit is that he's only scared--er, concerned--for Ryan's safety.
Suddenly, Shane feels a big hand drop onto his shoulder. His eyes widen in surprise as he tries his best not to spin around and fight off the stupid ghost.
Ryan sees the look on Shane's face, apparently, because he says, "Yeah, okay. Let's just go. It looks super dark down there anyways."
They start walking quickly back to where they set their equipment down to go investigate down a narrower hallway. Shane could feel the relief washing over him when the hand was lifted off of his shoulder. He risked a glance behind him only when Shane knew they were at a safe distance away from that narrow hallway. To Shane's relief, there was no sign of the ghost at all, making him think he imagined it all.
But he didn't.
