All Ryan saw was the back of now transformed Shane. His skin (if you can call it that) was black and littered with white dots that reminded Ryan of stars. Coming out from Shane's back were two big feathered wings, but they looked kind of broken and some black feathers were falling. Horns were protruding from Shane's now black hair and they curved upwards to weird soft glowing broken silver pieces. Halo pieces, Ryan realized in awe.
Shane quickly glances behind him at Ryan and the smaller boy can see that Shane's eyes had turned black with tiny purple swirls and white dots like the galaxy. Ryan can only stare in surprise and amazement as Shane walks up, all intimidation and buff, to Annan.
Annan giggles. "It's been way too long since I've seen this side of you, babe."
Shane's clenched fist twitches and Ryan can tell he's trying hard to stay calm. "I told you to stop calling me that," Shane says through clenched teeth.
This only makes Annan giggle again. He takes a few slow steps towards Shane, making Ryan see the height difference between the two. Now in demon form, Shane towers above Annan; the shorter only makes it up to Shane's shoulders.
Before Annan can say anything else or call Shane any more pet names, he throws a powerful right hook into Annan's side. He obviously wasn't expecting this; he stumbles back a few steps. "Oh, you are going to pay for that," Annan says and straightens himself up.
During this short time, Ryan had backed himself up against the back wall, as to stay as far away from the other two as possible. He continues to watch the fight as it escalates.
"I don't know why you're trying to fight me here, babe. I'm on your side," Annan says, walking back up to Shane, seeming to be perfectly fine.
"Bull-" Shane throws another punch, this time connecting with Annan's jaw, "-shit."
Annan laughs humourlessly. Ryan can tell he's trying to remain calm. Neither of the two boys can see Annan's face; he's still turned to the side from the impact of Shane's punch. "Now that pisses me off."
Quicker than Ryan could keep track of, Annan bolts and springs at Shane, knocking both of them down. Annan was on top of Shane, which totally did not make Ryan jealous, definitely not. Annan throws punch after punch at Shane's face, making Ryan feel the urge to jump in and stop the fight. He hates seeing Shane getting beat up like this.
Before he even has time to make a move, Shane suddenly dodges one of Annan's punches, making his fist go through the floor. Ryan hears Annan curse, rather loudly, then rip his hand back out of the floor. It comes back all bloody and torn, but he doesn't seem to notice this. Instead, he goes for Shane's throat. Annan manages to get his hands around Shane's throat and squeezes. Ryan hears Shane gag and tries to get Annan's hand off his neck. Shane was kicking his legs and trying desperately to get Annan's hands (which are now completely healed again) off. "I can do this all day, babe. You've seen me do it too." Shane was running out of breath and his kicks were getting sloppier.
"Stop," Ryan tries to yell, but it only comes out as a whisper that only he could hear. He tries again, "Stop!" That's better.
Annan glances at him as if he's just a fly on the wall that nobody cares about. "Shut up, human."
Apparently, it's enough of a distraction for Shane, though. He gets the right amount of leverage and kicks Annan off of him. He doesn't go very far, but far enough. Shane jumps to his feet, breathing heavy, and puts his fists up to get ready to attack again. Not wasting any time, he strikes out with his right hand (his good hand) and sends Annan stumbling to the floor. Shane kicks him again and again, bloodying him up, and not giving him a good chance to heal.
Then Annan does something that none of them expect. He starts laughing. It's not a very normal laugh, and definitely not like his laughs before, all confident and cocky. This sounds crazed. It makes Shane pause briefly out of shock, but that's all that Annan needs. He springs back up to his feet, spits out thick blood from his mouth then knees Shane right in the stomach. Shane tenses and loses his posture, giving the other demon a chance to pummel him with punches. They're so fast it looks like his hands are barely moving. With every hit, Shane backs up a small step until his back is pressed against the wall right beside Ryan, who is now huddled pathetically in a corner. He's helplessly watching his best friend get beaten up by a freaking demon.
And then Annan does something. Something Ryan doesn't completely understand. Since Shane was leaning over from the kneeing and the punching, Annan reached for Shane's head, or more specifically, a piece of his halo. He grabs it and pulls, a moment Ryan will never forget.
Shane screams. He screams a scream that shattered the glass panes, brings Ryan down to the ground cradling his ears, makes Annan wince and bleeds a bit from his ears. The scream is one that shatters any heart, it was full of pain, anguish, heartbreak and all things bad. After Annan pulls back Shane crumples to the ground. Annan smiles evilly and says "That's better." The only response was Shane's labored breathing and coughing."What did you do to Shane?" Ryan whispers, mostly to himself, as it was barely audible to the human ears.
But Annan is not human. The demon smirks and looks at the boy huddled in the corner of the room, staring at his best friend slowly being taken apart. "You see this?" Annan raises his hand to show his own shattered halo, Shane's to be exact. "All demons have one, it's from when we were angels with our big boss God. It's technically our lifelines, without it we start to wither away into non-existence. So Shaney-boy here has a good five pieces left before he withers away."
Ryan doesn't have time to think, only act. He barely realizes what he's doing when he runs up to Annan and punches him on the chest. Annan doesn't even flinch. Instead, he looks down on Ryan as if he were a puny human (which, I guess, he is, but still) then reaches out his hand and smacks Ryan aside as if he were simply an annoying bee buzzing around the demon's head.
Ryan gets thrown to the other side of the room and hits the back wall. Hard. The last thing Ryan remembers before complete blackness is Annan turning back around to Shane and tearing off a piece of Shane's halo. Ryan can only be thankful that he didn't have the chance to hear another heartbreaking scream erupting from Shane as another piece of his halo is fully torn from Shane's body.
