A/N: This was written as a secret Santa gift so it has a Christmassy theme!

There were many fun things scattered around the streets and market square. An ice rink, stalls with Christmas foods or gifts and a few games to play as well. Chizuru made her way to where she was to meet up with Hijikata-san. She was nervous of seeing him and excited at the same time. It had been awhile seen she left could spend time with him alone as he'd been busy at work in the school. This was a date to make up for that. It was still slightly awkward them being still teacher and student in a public place, but luckily most people had assumed them to be family friends so for the most part people didn't bother them with weird looks. She was glad about that, it meant that she could feel safe being out here with him in public. For their date, they had settled on the outdoor ice skating rink in the Christmas market. Chizuru hadn't really done much ice skating before so she hoped she'd be okay at it. Chizuru hurried along, carrying the Christmas present she'd made for Hijikata, through the crowd of people or tried to anyway, it was weekend and many people had come out to enjoy the market and all the various activities.

"Hijikata-san! Sorry I'm late!" Chizuru waved towards Hijikata. He was wearing casual clothes which of course looked brilliant on him and she felt a pang if jealousy as she could see women admiring him. Quickly moving on she turned her full attention to him.

"Well, it's fine, just don't make a habit of being late." Hijikata scolded her, but she knew he wasn't being harsh his soft expression gave that away.

"Yes!" Actually, this is for you! A present..." Chizuru told him with a shy smile, handing the gift over.

"Thanks." Hijikata muttered with a slight smile, taking the gift. Soon his other hand was holding hers which surprised her a little. "So we won't get separated in the busy crowds. We need to hurry so we don't miss our ice skating slot."

Chizuru could feel her cheeks blush and suddenly she found it hard to make eye contact with Hijikata, but still she managed to follow him, letting him take the lead. She had hoped he'd open his present there and then, but he was right they did have to get going. While she knew he wouldn't open it now, but she was sure he'd love what she'd given him.

It wasn't long before they reached the ice rink and they soon had on their hired ice skates and were on their way to the rink.

"Hijikata-san, have you ever skated before?" Chizuru asked, egar to know his answer. Earlier he had seemed adept at getting there things from the various people so it made her thought he'd done such as activity before.

"Not in many years, I don't have the time  for such things now." He paused for a few moments as if to recall old memories, ones he'd rather not share with Chizuru. "Well, at the very least I can skate well enough. Have you been before Chizuru? With Kaoru or Heisuke? "

Chizuru shook her head. Mostly she has ended up doing other things with her brother or childhood friend. She honestly couldn't say it was a thing she was good at. "No, but when I was little I skated a bit with my father. However, we haven't been able to go skating again since then."

"I'm sure you'll be able to pick it up quickly if you've skated before." Hijikata assured her, holding out his hand for her to grab onto to help her onto the rink. "I suppose we could go around together to start off with."

Chizuru grabbed his hand and stepped onto the rink. Hijikata seemed like a natural standing tall and balanced. A total gentlemen helping her along. She on the other hand, while she found she was able to keep herself up she was also taking full advantage of having Hijikata's hand to hold. She couldn't help feeling a bit of colour raising to her cheek out of embarrassment.

They skated around the rink a few times together, enjoying the rink. Chizuru wasn't going to do anything fancy on the rink, just had only just gotten the hang of it again, and she suspected Hijikata wouldn't do any grand skating moments either, but they were having fun and that was what mattered.

"I have something for you too. Hijikata told her, suddenly coming to a halt on the rink. "Hold out your hand. Close your eyes."

Chizuru stopped skating on and turned to face him. She hesitated, wondering what he was planned, but she did as he asked and held out her hand and closed her eyes. Then she felt something cold attached to her wrist and the warmth of Hijikata-san's warm hands. Her eyes fluttered open and she could see he had given her a bracelet with charms. It was beautiful and the action left her flustered.

"This is from me." He told her, his hand still hovering over where he had put the bracelet on her. Chizuru could feel her heart beat faster and faster, until suddenly Hijikata pulled her towards him and into a hug. Chizuru could feel her cheeks and ear go red. This was the man she loved after all, he could do this to her.

"I'm sorry it took me so long to find time to spend with you." Hijikata apologised, although there was no need for that. Chizuru felt she was just glad that he was here now with her, spending Christmas together.

"It's okay. We're spending time together now! Merry Christmas, Hijikata-san!" Chizuru smiled up at him, returning the hug.

"Merry Christmas, Chizuru." And then after those words he pulled her closer to him. Holding her chin up, Chizuru knew what he was going to do next, he then he gave her a sweet kiss that left her a loss for words. "And a happy new year."
