REI'S POV
Dreamworld...
I saw my eight-year-old self and I saw my parents. I ran over to them and then they hugged me tightly. They said they love me and I told them I loved them back...until two gunshots were heard. I opened my eyes and I saw them dead at my feet. I was shocked by this and I saw Takeo standing in front of me.
"You blamed the man who killed your parents, the people who were meant to protect you but, who's the real killer here?"
I was confused by this until I looked down and I saw the revolver in my hand, the same gun that was used to kill my parents. I gasped in shock and then Takeo smirked at me and his brown eyes changed to a red colour.
"It's your fault they're dead, it's your fault that I'm gonna spend my days in prison..."
I saw my fifteen-year-old self as Takeo and my parents, who suddenly rose from the dead and they changed in black demons with red glowing eyes. The three of them spoke in my parents and Takeo's voices.
Takeo: "It's your fault that I'm gonna die in prison."
Rei's Mother: "It's your fault that I sacrificed myself to save you."
Rei's Father: "It's your fault that I wasted my life to save you and your dear mother."
"It's your fault!"
"It's your fault!"
"It's your fault!"
"It's your fault!"
"It's your fault!"
The voices continued to say 'it's your fault' over and over and over again. I covered my ears to try and block out the voices but they got louder and louder.
"Shut up!! stop saying that!! it's not my fault!! STOP IT!!!"
I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Dream ends...
"Rei! Rei! wake up!!"
I shot my eyes open and I gasp in horror. I was panting in exhaustion and I could feel fear rushing through my body, that was the one emotion/feeling that I haven't felt in years since that night when my parents were killed and when Takeo was arrested and taken from me.
"Rei, are you all right?"
I looked to the side and it was Kanato.
"Kanato...? when did you get here...?"
"Teddy and I were going to our favourite place until we heard you mumbling and you looked as if you were having a nightmare."
I looked away from Kanato and I laid back down on the bed and I placed the back of my hand on my face.
"That's because I was..."
"What was about?"
Kanato asked as he sat next to me and I moved my hand out of my face and I wondered if I should tell him.
"Don't worry, Teddy and I won't tell anyone."
I sat up and I decided to tell him about the nightmare I had.
"I saw myself along with my parents, I hugged them tightly and I was happy for a moment until I heard two gunshots being fired and the next minute, they were both lying dead on the ground near my feet."
"Your parents were killed?"
"Yeah, anyway, a friend of mine who took me in after their deaths, was there and he said to me 'You blamed the man who killed your parents, the people who were meant to protect you but, who's the real killer here?'"
Kanato was surprised when I told him this and I looked at the palm of my hand.
"When I looked down, I saw the revolver that was used to kill my parents, to make it look like I was the one who did it and then....my parents and my old friend, they turned into these dark demons and they were blaming me for losing them, they kept telling me it's my fault over and over again....that's it, I woke up afterwards..."
"Rei-san...that must have been awful."
"But, what if these dreams are right, what if...what if it really is my fault that my parents were killed and my friend is gonna spend the rest of his days in prison?"
"Don't say stuff like that, what happened to them wasn't your fault, it was their own choice to save you in the first place."
"You really think so?"
Kanato nodded his head and he then said to me.
"Of course."
I was surprised that Kanato would say something like to me but then again, he has made a good point, after all those people were the ones who foolishly sacrificed themselves to save me and protect me.
A FEW HOURS LATER...
During the lunch break, I decided to head over to the prison to see Takeo because I couldn't stand being away from him forever. I showed my fake ID to the policeman and he then said to me.
"It's been a while Karou, have you been busy?"
"Yeah, you could say that, how's Takeo been?"
"He's been great, in fact, we had a couple of school kids here a few weeks ago, he told them about the stuff he did before he was sent to prison, it was an eye-opener for some of the boys too, if he keeps this up, the judge might consider releasing him for his good behaviour."
"Really?! that's great news!"
"I wouldn't get your hopes up yet, Takeo is still rough around the edges and some of the ex-gang members are giving him a hard time but, other than that, there's still hope for him yet."
I smiled a this and then he lets me into the visiting room. I sat down and then Takeo came out along with the other prisoners. Takeo was shocked and surprised to see me. I smiled at him and then he sat down and said to me.
"I thought I told you not to come here anymore."
"Sorry, I can't stay away from you Takeo, I tried to forget about you but, I'm the only one who hasn't done a runner or got themselves caught yet and besides, you look like you need the distraction."
I said with a smile on my face. Takeo sighed in defeat and he then smiled at me.
"No matter what age you are, you're still the same stubborn brat I remember."
"Hehe, but, nevermind me, what about you? the policeman over has just told me you're doing great in here and you might get released early."
"Yeah, it took me by surprise too when that lawyer you were somehow able to pay for, told me this after I told him about the activities I've been doing."
"What the chances?"
"Well, I can't say exactly but, he said, if I keep this up the judge will decide whether or not to release me early or not."
I was happy when Takeo said this and he then asked me.
"But, enough about me, what have you been up to? I see you're wearing a school uniform."
"Yeah, I'm attending night school, the academy isn't that bad aside from jocks being morons and girls being yanderes."
"Hahaha! Well other than that, it's going well for you?"
"It sure is."
"Finally, you're starting over again."
"I'm a little surprised at myself actually, I didn't think I'd go school after what I've been through."
Takeo held my hands and he said to me.
"Remember what I told you before, no matter what you've been through, that pain makes you stronger."
I smiled at Takeo's words of wisdom and I thought to myself.
'Kanato was right, it's not my fault that Takeo is in prison but, will he continue to be nice to me if he learnt about my true identity?'
