DAYS WE'VE SPENT APART (Anders Fannemel)

PART 22 - CHARLOTTE - UNBREAKABLE

22.

"They're going to be okay, Char. I assure you that the plane won't crash," Anders says as I walk up and down the room, waiting for my parents to come with Alex.

It's 31st December and as Anders promised a few weeks ago, we'll spend the New Year's Eve with Alex. They are coming for the weekend and leaving the day we leave.

"I know, I know. But I'm still scared. It's his first flight, I should be with him. Don't you think?" I ask and sit down beside him on the bed

"He's in safe hands, babe. They won't even be here in another hour so don't overthink, please. Come on, I don't have training for another 2 hours. We can go around a little bit," he says and stands up, he stretches his hands towards me and I take them.

We go outside and walk around the town for a bit. It's snowing and at the hill, everything is ready for today's qualifications.

"Do you remember what we decided a little after Alex was born?" Anders suddenly asks me as we're walking back to the hotel

"That we're starting from the beginning?" I take a guess and he nods. He stops and looks at me.

"Well, I've been thinking about our decision and in those past 8 months, we've definitely been through a lot. And I love you and Alex more than anything in this world. And if you think that we're far enough in our relationship I'd really really like you to marry me," he says, it shocks me at first and I'm left a little bit speechless but then I realise that I need to say something like the first time this happened

"Um, yes. Yes, yes, of course. Yeah, of course, I'll marry you," I say confused. He pulls the familiar box out of his pocket and opens it, there's the same ring that I've fallen in love with a year or so ago. He puts the ring on my left hand and kisses me.

"I love you and Alex more than anything too," I say as I pull away

We slowly continue our path back to the hotel. The snowflakes are slowly falling on to the ground and melting on it. We get to the hotel and to our room and when he wants to unlock it, we find it unlocked. We exchange a glance and he slowly opens the door. We find my parents and Alex inside it standing beside the window.

"My baby," I say as they see us and go get him. Mom gives him to me and I hug him.

"I missed you," I say as he starts to mess with my hair with his hands. I pull him back a little bit so he wouldn't pull out all of my hair. I give him a kiss on his little head and give him to Anders. I give a hug to my mom and dad and thank them for coming here.

"He was really good on the plane, he didn't cry or anything. Just slept, I didn't want to wake him up since we were on a plane so I just let him sleep," mom say as Anders holds Alex

"He's always a good boy," I say and we laugh a little bit

"Yeah, when you're not around. When you're around all he cares about is you and when you leave he starts to cry for half an hour," mom says as Alex starts stretching his arms from Anders to me

"I told you," mom says as we watch Alex stretch his hands in my direction

"We're trying to get him used to someone else holding him while I'm around but he's still not giving up," I say as I look at my mom. Anders tries to turn him around away from me but he keeps turning his head in my direction.

"Well, good luck with that. We tried that with your brother but it didn't work," dad says and we laugh

"What about me?" I hear Robert from behind. He comes in and says hi to mom and dad

"Nothing. What are you doing here?" I ask him and look at the time.

"I'm here to steal Anders. We have training," Robert says as Anders passes him, Alex.

"Since when do you trust him?" mom whispers and nods towards Robert while Anders goes to get his stuff

"I don't, Anders does," I say as Alex starts moving in Robert's arms and crying.

"What am I doing wrong?" Robert asks a little annoyed that Alex doesn't really like him

"It's not you. When she's around there's no one that could hold him and he wouldn't be upset," Anders says as he presses a kiss to his head. I take Alex from Robert and kiss Anders.

"Nice ring," Robert says as they say goodbye

"I know," I say and smile to Anders as they leave

I sit down on the bed as my parents go to check if their room is ready for them. I put Alex in front of me and smile. He really looks like Anders, the eyes are definitely Anders' and the ears too. But the smile is mine, the way he smiles is definitely the way I smile. I give him a kiss on the cheek as he smiles. He stretches his arms towards me as he did before and I take him into my arms. He starts playing with my hair and pulling them, I just leave him to play with my hair for a little while as I know that he's going to be all grumpy and sad if I'd pull my hair away from him.

"I love you, sweetie," I whisper and give him a kiss on the cheek as he keeps playing with my hair. I can see how he reaches and gives me a kiss on my cheek and then goes back to playing with my hair.

I just laugh and think about how much I and Anders went through to be here right now, I think that guys are going to have a celebration every time we'll have a safe car ride. But I don't mind. I'm actually happy we went through everything because we proved everyone that we're stronger than they think. Because after all days we've spent apart we still found a way back to each other.
