Star Wars Fanfiction: Betrayed (2nd Book)

Chapter 8

"Lieutenant Skywalker," Leia said, spotting her niece," Rose found some pretty dingy V-4X-D Ski speeders, find her and help repair them as best you can."
"Aye, Aye General!" Anna said, beaming. She was certainly happy to be back at her post as a technician. She found Rose tinkering on the ski speeders, better known as the worst ships she had ever seen in her life. Anna winced when she saw them, Rose looked in her direction." Pretty beat up, huh? These are from the old rebellion days"

"Cool, can you hand me some tools?" They wasted no time getting to work. Tightening a few bolts there, nailing a little here. But pretty soon they realized there really wasn't anything they could do to help the ships. Anna slipped on her mother's jacket while they worked. She realized that she was more like her mother than she thought. Her mother had been good with wires and bolts from helping Han on the Millennium  Falcon, so when she joined the rebels she became a technician.

Rose and Anna stood up and looked at the ships, they looked just as bad as before. Rose shook her head," We have to report to General Leia anyway." "Are we even sure they could make it off the ground?" Anna said, still skeptical of them. "Hopefully, but without a test run all we can do is hope." They walked back to the command center as fast as they could, they had to get a move on to defeat the battering-ram cannon.

Leia and Connix were still waiting to receive word from any of their sympathizers, but they had no luck so far. "Our distress call has been received at multiple points, but no one has answered." Connix  said. Anna and Rose ran into the command center,"General, we have finished repairs,but not much could be done." "Get what's left of the pilots, and you'll need to find some volunteers. We don't have many pilots left."

Anna and Rose ran out into the main cave to Poe. "Poe, we have the ships fixed as best we could, but we need pilots." Anna said. "I have all the pilots over there." Poe said, pointing to two people behind him."This is all that's left?" Rose said, Poe nodded.
"I'll fly one." Finn said, suddenly appearing at Poe's side." Me too." Rose said, determination written all over her face. Anna smiled bitterly," I guess I might as well join the party." The group looked at each other for a moment, realizing that not everyone would make it through this battle.

"I've got to tell the General we have the group ready." She walked back into the control room," General, we have pilots and volunteers ready." Leia walked closer to Anna.
"You're one, aren't you?" Her voice broke Anna's heart. "Yes, you can't forbid me this time...." She said sadly, no trace of bitterness in her voice at all. "Go! There's no time to waste! No one else is coming to save us, it's up to you pilots now." Leia urged her niece.
Anna ran back out into the central room," General said move! Get into position now!" 

As she turned and ran to her ship, she ran into Poe in her frantic effort to hurry.
"Sorry!" She yelled above the noise of the ships beginning to power on. He grabbed her wrist even though he knew they had to hurry. He hugged her quickly and kissed her forehead. "I can't die without telling you bye!" He yelled as they quickly jumped into their ships. Anna's cheeks tinged pink, she knew the probability of survival was incredibly low.This made Anna want to cry. Poe was prepared to die for the resistance, as was everyone else here.

As was she. Only if she did die, she would break her promise to her father. She wouldn't ever go back to the island. But it doesn't matter, because if he had come back this wouldn't be happening right now. She doesn't hate her father, she is just frustrated with him. She loves him. The ships shot out of little ports at the top of the door, then drifted to the salty ground. Anna pressed the green button on the dash, and the ski at the back of the ship came down.

"Listen, I don't like these rust buckets and I don't like our odds- what the hell?!" Poe screeched, Anna knew something on his ship had probably broken." Just, keep it tight and don't get drawn in too close until they roll that cannon out front."
Anna had a million thoughts racing through her head as they accelerated toward their target. She noticed, as the ground forces attacked, they did absolutely no damage to the modified AT-ATs. "We are going to die...." She said to herself.

Anna's eyes widened as she saw numerous TIE fighters fly through the air and start shooting at the speeders."Fighters, break off!" She heard Poe yell. She swerved around in the salty field to try and ward off the other ships. She saw another ship get shot, it exploded. She took several deep breathes to try and calm down. "Rose! You have three right behind you!" She screamed. "I can't lose them!" Rose panicky stated. All three of the ships suddenly went down with a single shot. Anna looked into the sky and saw a certain special ship.

Rey and Chewie had come back. All of the TIE fighters started towards the Millennium Falcon, drawing away from the speeders on the ground. "Oh they hate that ship!" Finn said happily. "There's the cannon." Rose screamed over the noise. "The only shot is straight down the throat." Finn continued. As they drew in closer, the cannon began warming up. A red light shone out of it. More speeders around them crumpled to the ground after being shot."They're picking us off one by one. Pull back, there's no chance, it's a suicide mission." Poe ordered.

Anna drew her ship away, but saw that everyone but Finn pulled back, "Finn, what are you doing?" Anna yelled, " I'm almost there!" "Pull back Finn, that's an order!" Poe said.
"Finn, it's too late! Listen to Poe-" Rose started but was cutoff when Finn turned off the com link. Anna directed her ship back towards the trenches, there was nothing she could do. Finn continued, getting closer and closer. Until Rose suddenly crashed into him, in order to save him.

Anna jumped out of the ship and climbed down into the trench. The wind created by the cannon whipped her hair around her face. She watched as Finn tried to bring Rose back. Poe pushed her, telling her to go back inside. She ran through the tunnel that connected to the trench. She had no clue what would happen next, because none of that had done any good whatsoever.

Sorry this chapter is so awful. I was rushing to get something published. I realize that the first book is over a year old, and I want to thank all of you guys for reading. I love you guys and I am gonna try to post way more often!
