"So long story short, we just want you guys to be aware and be careful about using things like Facebook or Instagram." Hunter and I wrapped up our talk with the kids after Beckett's shake up earlier in the day.
"Why do people do this? We're just kids. And at the end of the day, we are all human." Sutton expressed.
"You're right - we are just humans." I smirked, "I've never understood why but people seem very interested in the lives of public figures from us, to actors to the president and even animals going viral." I shrugged. "People will make up lies to get attention, sell fake stories....How many times were we going to divorce Hunt?" I turned to him, and he smirked.
"Like six." He rolled his eyes, "And I'm sure, especially around the time of our wedding anniversary- the same lie will resurface." The kids asked a few more wise questions before we laid the topic to rest, assuring them that they were safe.
I turned over in bed to face Hunter who was chipping away at his long list of emails. "What's going on babe?" I leaned into his arm, breathing him in.
"Just chipping away. I'm in a lull, without any big projects I just don't know what to do with myself." He leaned over to kiss the top of my head.
"My mind has been turning too." I sighed, "my contract with Atlantic will up be soon."
"Yeah, that crossed my mind."
"Well, obviously, what I'm doing next has been weighing on mine. I think I'm ready to take a step back, do side projects, be a mom."
"You're an amazing mom, Jen." He put his phone down and turned to face me.
"I'm so proud the way we are raising them, we have the greatest kids." We chatted a little bit more and eventually wound down for bed, my head thinking of all the different directions I could go.
"Breakfast guys, come on." I dishes out scrambled eggs as the kids came downstairs. The radio caught my attention as I was buttering the toast.
"This singer has been under the radar lately and as the news has it, she will be what we know as a free agent in just a number of months. Here's Jenna Hayes, Take You Away." The familiar chords opened the song as the kids enjoyed their breakfast.
"Mom, what's a free agent?" Beckett asked, his stunning grey eyes were inquisitive.
"It means that I my record deal is ending." I said, "I might just sign with a different company or do something different. I really enjoy being home with you guys."
"We love that you're home mom," Easton smiled, "but do you miss singing?"
"I still sing, I write with a lot of great people too." I smiled and ushered the kids to finish their breakfast so they could get to school on time.
"Mom, remember Easton and I have our costume fitting after school today." I thanked Sutton for the reminder and said bye to the kids before heading to the studio.
"So it's true then? Free agent?" Kyle asked as we tuned the guitars.
"Yeah, and it's weird. Not sure what I'm going to do." I opened my notebook to a dog eared page, "I can just keep writing. I heard Brett Young pulled the song we wrote last week."
"Yeah that's great. Hopefully Holly Jade will like what we have for her today." Kyle sat next to me and we practiced the song we wrote for the new country music princess. "Hunter will take you on tour, you know that."
"Yeah but his work is his work," I sighed, placing my guitar across my lap, "I was thinking though, might look into some acting, supporting acts or just keep writing." We were interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Jenna, Kyle," we stood up to see an unfamiliar woman, Holly Jade followed closely behind, "I'm Sheena, I work with Holly." She stepped aside and we shook hands as Holly filtered in with three friends.
"Great to meet you," I extended my hand and she walked past to grab a seat on the couch, "We have two songs for you." I picked up my guitar and Kyle sat next to me as we strummed. We played two songs for her, one called Here Again, the other called More Whiskey.
"So, what do you think Holly?" Sheena asked.
Holly sat back, her green eyes sharp under blunt, black bangs. Her fiercely pink lips pursed together as her mind turned. "I like them both, and I need two songs to fill the next album."
"Great," I smiled, "thery'e yours if you like."
"Great. Set that up Shauna." Holly and her posse got up and left the room, and I turned to Sheena.
"So, let's talk."
J: That diva Holly Jade just took two of my songs for her album
H: was she really a diva? I'm glad you got two songs going.
J: she calls her PA by the wrong name and travels with a posse. Total diva haha
