"She's gone! She's gone! Oh gods, what have I done?!" Marth wailed as he held the glowing red flower close to him. He payed no mind to the warm tears flowing from his eyes. You were all his mind was wired to at the moment. And now you were gone. And he was absolutely broken.
He found the flower and the stone about 2 hours after you disappeared. Even in his love ridden distraught mind, he put together what happened. You misheard him, you ran away, and now, with nothing to stay here for, you went back to your own game, leaving everything behind. Including him.
He felt absolutely awful. He knew why you lashed out at him. He had no idea how long you had been standing at the door, but you must have been there for only a second to mishear something.
"Pit, I don't know what to do. Please, you have to help me."
"Yes, what do you need help with Marth?"
"You're aware that me and (Y/N) haven't been spending time together a lot. Especially since the... incident."
"I know. Yeah, I don't think anyone has. It's sad, seeing her trying to talk to people but they always yell at her."
"It is. And... I want to be there for her. I want to make people believe she didn't do it on purpose. I know she wouldn't have. She didn't mean to. She's too good to do that."
"Marth?"
"Hm?"
"You love her, don't you?"
Pit's question hit him like a brick. He knew he loved her, he has ever since he met her. She was beautiful, charismatic, charming, a strong independent woman. Hell, they shared a kiss on karaoke night. But hearing it from someone else, that was an entirely different feeling. It confirms what you know on the inside, but from an outsider's perspective.
Marth nodded.
"Yes, madly. I'm just so scared for her, Pit. For us. You would feel the same way if your lover was so scrutinized for something they had no control of."
"S- she seems so nice but... she hurt him."
"I just don't know. I'm conflicted."
He paused.
"I'm afraid I can't be seen around her. I l-"
"You bitch, you lying BITCH!"
And that was the moment he lost the love of his life.
Marth shook the cold, painful memory out of his head. It hurt too much to remember. He didn't want to remember, but he remembered vividly. Her face, the smell of alcohol hanging off of her breath, the tears of pain falling from her eyes, her messy hair, the flower. It all hit him like a stampeding pegasus knight.
"Marth, please..." Pit said, placing a hand of his back. He breathed in shakily. Pit was still here for him, even days after the fight. Roy had joined him too, he was loud and at times obnoxious, but when it really counted he was there, to be a supportive friend and a shoulder to cry on. You would never guess it from his partying frat boy persona, but he was. He really is a lot like his father. Eliwood would be proud.
"She hates me. I'm such a screw up, I am the reason she left. I'm the cause of her being gone." Marth muttered. "Stop that, no you aren't. If anything, you should blame us. We were too conceited to see how she was suffering. We couldn't see past our own biases. We're so sorry, Marth." Roy said. Marth blinked up at him. Did everyone feel that way? Even in his grief ridden state, he felt an idea spark to life.
"Bring her home." He said quietly. Pit and Roy shot a confused glance at one another, and then looked back down at the blue haired prince. "What?" Pit inquired. "I need to bring her home." Marth said, louder and more confident this time. "You're going to bring her home? Marth, we appreciate the sentiment but how exactly do you plan on doing that? We don't know where she is, let alone know if she even wants to come back." Marth sat up and shook his head, swinging his legs over the bed and standing up. "No, we do know where she is. She used the stone. She's in her own game. Why would she go anywhere else?" He stated. The other 2 nodded. "And I know if we convinced her to come back, she would." He said.
Pit spoke up. "Uh, I hate to rain on your parade but, what about the others? Are you sure they would want her back?" He said. Marth pondered this for a moment. Then he remembered a pair of smashers who could help. "Come on, follow me." He said.
The group of 3 walked down the hall, Pit and Roy lagging slightly behind Marth, as they reached the door of the room that the Corrins share together. Marth knocked on the door. There was a pause of silence for about 4 seconds, before the handle twisted, and the female version of Corrin opened the door. She looked at them, confused, but not hostile.
"Oh? Hello Marth. Hello Pit. Hello Roy." She said, greeting each of them separately. "Hello, Corrin. Sorry to bother you, but do you happen to know where your brother is?" Marth asked. "He's back in Hoshido, tending to some matters while he has nothing to do. Why do you ask?" She questioned. "We need access to the stone (Y/N) used to leave," Marth said. "We're going to bring her back."
Corrin looked shocked. "Really? You are? But Marth, she-" "Corrin, please." Marth cut her off, pleading. "She had no intention of hurting Dark Pit. She's better than that." Corrin still looked uncomfortable, unconvinced. "She's from a horror game, Marth. Maybe it's just in her nature to hurt others." Marth looked her dead in the eyes, his gaze unwavering. "Corrin," Corrin met his gaze.
"You should know better than anyone that birth doesn't define who you are. It's the choices you make. After all, Azura held nothing against you after you almost killed her the first time you turned. Why shouldn't you do the same for (Y/N)?"
Corrin seemed taken aback by his words, as did Pit and Roy. It hit her deeply. She broke eye contact and looked at the ground. After a few moments, she met his eyes once more. "You have a point, Marth." She chuckled. "You have always had a way of telling us when we screwed up." She went back into her room for a moment, and then came back with the stone. "Master Hand entrusted us the stone after the incident, since my brother was the one assigned with getting her in the first place. But here," she placed it in Marth's hands. "Take it. Bring her home." Corrin said. Marth nodded and smiled. "Thank you." He whispered. Corrin nodded. "Its the least I could do. As an apology. From all of us." She said.
The party of 3 ran outside of the mansion into a secluded forest like area. They didn't want anyone to see. This was their mission.
Marth instinctively knew the words to activate, he had traveled with stones before, to recruit Robin, Lucina, Ike and other characters from his franchise. The portal opened in front of them, and Marth couldn't help feeling intimidated. He had no idea of the world he was going to. He knew he might die.
But this was the risk he was willing to take.
He stepped forward, before a hand on his shoulder stopped him. "Wait." Pit said, as Marth looked back at him. "Hm?" Marth inquired. "I'm coming with you. I don't want to leave you alone in that world." He said. Marth looked at him, concern evident in his eyes and his thoughts. "Are you sure? You might get hurt." He said. Pit shook his head. "I can handle it." Marth smiled and nodded, and then looked at Roy. "Are you joining us as well?" He asked. Roy shook his head. "I'm going to stay here, and get the mansion back in (Y/N)'s favor. I want her to come back to a welcoming place." He said. Marth nodded. "Be safe." Roy said. "We will." Pit replied. Marth looked at the portal longingly.
Marth couldn't bear it anymore. He ran through the portal, with Pit following close behind, and Roy looking after them as the portal closed behind them. He needed to find her. He needed her. And no doubt others needed her too. He didn't care what it took, how long it took, how much apologizing he had to do.
He was bringing her home. If not to him, than to the others who needed her just as much.
