My body ached.
My eyes stung from the sweat trickling down my face.
I felt as if I was about to vomit at any moment.
I was sparring with Vilkas currently, and by the Divines, the weather was not at my advantage today.
I swung my steel axe, but Vilkas countered it with his own attack. I quickly rose my shield up, but the force knocked me over. I tried to roll over but I only landed on my side, knocking the air out of myself. I wheezed as Vilkas's shadow covered me from the sun's light.
"C'mon, get up, (Y/N)," he stated.
I pressed my hand against the dirt, trying to use it as leverage as I attempted to get up, but I only slumped back to the ground.
"Just... just give me a.. a moment," I said, panting and taking deep breaths.
Farkas had been watching from the tables. "Give her a break, won't you, brother? You two have been at it for a good while," he called, getting up to get the both of them some cold mead.
"Fine," Vilkas replied, walking off to the shade. He set down his weapon and wiped the sweat off his brow.
I silently thanked Farkas as I continued to lay on the ground. The sun was overbearing, but my body ached too much. Eventually, I was able to catch my breath, so I heaved myself off the ground and shuffled to the cool shade. I dropped my weapons to the ground and plopped myself in a seat.
"You need more training," Vilkas stated as Farkas set two bottles of mead in front of the both of us. Farkas sighed, "You did good, (Y/N)."
I gave Farkas a tired, but thankful smile. I greedily gulped down the mead, feeling the cold liquid cool off my body.
"How come you look like that?" I asked, turning to Vilkas.
He rose a brow, "Like what?"
"Like you haven't sparred with me for the past few hours? Minus the sweat and whatnot..."
He took a sip of his mead before answering. "I guess I have much more stamina than you. Proves as to why you need more training. Get ready, we're going to finish this small break before going back to it."
My eyes widened, "What?! Vilkas, please, I want to rest. Can I at least-"
Vilkas had cut me off, "Don't you want to be a good, skilled warrior? Companions don't back down from a fight! You're weak and you need to train!"
Ouch.
I was about to retort, but he gave me a stern glare. It was intimidating, which only proved what he said was right... I am weak. I remained quiet, only replying in a nod. After a couple of uncomfortable and tense minutes, we went back to sparring.
Hours upon hours later, I was felt much more exhausted than earlier. Luckily, it was late in the night, meaning I could rest now. During our sparring session, I was much more determined to try and impress Vilkas. I wanted to show him I wasn't weak. That I was a worthy companion. That I was a warrior.
"Head into the living quarters, get sleep and be ready for tomorrow. We'll be doing more training tomorrow," Vilkas demanded. I nodded, taking heavy breaths.
I turned away from him and walked up to the doors of Jorrvaskr. I shoved it open and walked up to the table. I grabbed a bottle of mead and a loaf of bread before heading to the living quarters. Once out of sight of everyone, Farkas walked up to Vilkas.
"Aren't you being a little hard on her?" His brow was furrowed and his arms were crossed.
"That's my intention."
"You're pushing her beyond her limit!"
"Good."
"Good?! Vilkas, why are you so hard on her?!"
"Because, Farkas, I see potential in her! I have a feeling she'll be a strong warrior. But right now? I need to push her. I want to see her triumph in every battle she encounters. Her strength is impressive, but if I told her that, she might think she is strong enough to battle anyone. She could end up getting severely injured, and I don't want that. I want to make sure she is ready, trained hard enough, and a brave fighter."

I hope this was a good one! When I first played the Companion's questline and got to spar with Vilkas, I always imagined him being the 'tough love' type, at least at first. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this! I promise there will be more fluffy-like chapters with Vilkas in the future! :)
