Mumbo and Grian were arguing over Grian's latest prank on Mumbo, which wasn't common. Not the pranking bit, but the arguing, it was something they had never done. Poultry Man had done another prank on Mumbo. Eggs, feathers, and raw chicken clogged up his storage system and he couldn't get rid of the stuff.
Mumbo arranged a meeting in Mumbo's base to talk about pranking. He had been having a rough day and Grian's prank slightly annoyed him.
"Grian, you really need to stop with the whole prank thing, it's getting a bit out of hand," Mumbo said to Grian.
"I need to stop? You keep returning the prank with one of your own," Grian reasoned.
"Yes, but it's because you started it!" Mumbo retorted.
"Well, I did give you the Fork of Friendship... I had to do something to get back at you, I can't just give you something for free."
"You literally started the prank war."
"But I never expected things to escalate to that..."
"You know, Grian, you're just so childish and annoying sometimes!" Mumbo said to Grian, speaking with honesty.
"I-"
"No, let me finish," Mumbo said, cutting Grian off. "You just do something really childish and act like nothing was wrong, you do this all the time!"
This caused Grian to look down at his feet, too embarrassed to talk. Was he really that annoying? "Mumbo, I'm sorry, I just-"
"Why did they have to add you in Hermitcraft? If they knew the trouble you would be, they wouldn't have added you."
Grian remained silent for about a minute, not trusting his voice. Their silence stretched on for a minute or two, maybe longer, but Grian didn't bother to count. He was too lost in the storm of thoughts in his head. He finally spoke, "I'm sorry if that's how you feel about me and I'm sorry I caused this, thank you for telling me." His eyes began to water slightly and he turned around and started walking, trying to leave the area before Mumbo could see his face.
Mumbo soon realized his mistake. "Wait, Grian, I didn't mean that!" Grian stopped walking, but still kept his back toward Mumbo.
"No, you meant it, you just didn't mean to say it. You wouldn't have said or even thought about something like that if you 'Didn't mean it'." His voice was shaky and Mumbo could tell that he was on the verge of tears. Mumbo's heart broke, he didn't mean what he had said to Grian, he was just annoyed. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to leave. Before I can bother you even more." Grian said before leaping off Mumbo's base and flying towards his own.
'What did I just do?' Mumbo thought to himself. 'No, I know what I did, but why did I do it?' He just freaked out and overreacted to a small prank and told his best friend lies that probably ruined their friendship. Forever. 'I didn't mean it, did I?' Mumbo sat there and thought. He thought about his friendship with Grian. He thought about the small, and seemingly harmless, pranks they did on each other. And he thought about what he had said to Grian and how he regretted it. He wished he could take back all of the things he said.
'I'll just go to sleep. It's getting late, anyways' he thought to himself as he dropped off his extra items in a random chest near his bed. As he was close to drifting off to a deep slumber, his thoughts once again returned to his friendship that he ruined with that being the last thing he thought of for the day.

Mumbo awoke from his sleep, though he didn't feel like he had any rest. It had been a few weeks since he and Grian had spoken and the viewers started to notice their sudden halt of collaborations as well.
They were commenting in every video that was released without a mention of the other hermit, questioning what had happened to their normal, friendly encounters. There'd be comments saying things like 'Why aren't you and Grian collaborating?' or 'Where'd Poultry Man go?' and he didn't know how to respond. If he told them the truth, they'd hate him. Not that he didn't deserve it, he did and he hated himself too, but he didn't want to make it awkward for Grian, especially if he didn't want it.
As Mumbo was walking around his farms, he heard a scream followed by a loud crunch coming from his main island. He quickly hurried over to find none other than Grian, on the floor crumpled up on the grass and groaning out in pain.
"Grian! Oh my God, let me help you!" Mumbo said, but didn't receive much of a response, only a painful groan was heard coming from Grian.
Mumbo approached Grian and began to pick him up bridal style. Halfway through picking Grian up, Mumbo heard him hiss out in pain. "I'm sorry," Mumbo said, "but I need to pick you up to take you somewhere more comfortable."
Mumbo carried Grian over to his bed and softly set him down. "Hold on, I'll be right back," he told Grian. Mumbo walked over to his chest to get some food and a first aid kit.
When Mumbo was done with using the first aid kit on Grian, he looked away and took a breath before speaking. "I'm sorry for hurting you, Grian."
Grian was confused. "It's ok, you helped me right now."
"No, I'm sorry for hurting you. I shouldn't have said all those things to you. I didn't mean them, and I hope you know that. I don't want our friendship to end, but if you want to end it, I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to be my friend either. I'm a horrible person for saying all of that to you and I hope you can forgive m-"
Mumbo was cut off by Grian's pointer finger going against his lips. "Shh, don't worry about it. I forgive you," said Grian, softly. Mumbo threw himself at Grian, hugging him tightly.
"Why? Why do you forgive me? I don't deserve to be forgiven. Hell, I don't deserve a friend like you. You're too nice and forgiving and I'm... not. I was rude to you and told you lies. I don't even know where they came from, I guess I was having a rough day and that prank was the last straw. I'm sorry."
"Mumbo, I already told you that I forgive you. It's ok. And I hope we can remain friends..?"
"Grian, I should be the one asking that question. And yes, I want to still be your friend, though I don't know why you would like to be mine," Mumbo responded.
"Because you're you," Grian answered honestly.
They both stayed there on Mumbo's bed for a while. Grian was playing with Mumbo's hair while Mumbo was drawing small, circular patterns on the backside of Grian's free hand.
"Thank you for helping me, Mumbo. I appreciate it," said Grian.
"You're welcome," responded Mumbo. They remained quiet for a while before Mumbo spoke again. "I hope nothing like this happens between us again, I can't stand it," said Mumbo, softly.
"Me neither."
