You woke up to a knock at your door.

"Come in" You called

Your mother walked in with tears in her eyes.

"Oh Y/N. I heard from the nurses. Do you...." she looked away "Do you really have—.."

Your mother broke down in tears right then and there. She wrapped her frail arms around you, sobbing in your ears.

You didn't know what to say or do. You stared at the blank wall in front of you. You didn't want her to suffer because of the complications in your own body.

Finally, she kissed you on the forehead and quietly left your room.

You sighed. It's been like this for awhile now. You were tired both mentally and physically.

Not long after your mother left, two small eyes peered through the crack in the door.

It was your little brother.

You softly smiled. "Come in"

Your little brother shyly walked in with a paper in his hand.

"Here" he urged, plopping the paper in your lap.

It was a drawing of you and him together, holding hands. Both of you had happy faces and carefree smiles.

"Mommy said not to bother you, but... but I missed you" he sniffled

"Awww buddy. I missed you too." You said tenderly, picking him up and sat him next to you on the hospital bed.

"Y/N, I have a question" he said shyly

"What is it?" You asked.

He shifted his weight uncomfortably. "What's a tumer?"

You couldn't help but laugh. "You mean tumor?"

He meekly nodded. You let out another long sigh.

"Well, you may have heard that I'm terminally ill. Do you know what that means?" You asked, stroking your brothers hair.

He shook his head.

"It means my disease is incurable. It means that I'm going to die soon" You said softly

Your brother looked at you quietly. He didn't say a word but his eyes said it all.

"A tumor is like a sponge. It grows and swells until it consumes my body." you said

Tears welled up in his eyes. "B-but I don't want you to die."

He hugged you tightly and sobbed in your chest. Your eyes started to tear up as well, but you quickly wiped them. You couldn't let your brother see you in pain.

"It's okay bud. I love you and that's all you need to know. I love you, mom, and everyone who has tried to help me get better" You whispered

Then the door opened. Your mom stormed into the room.

"B/N (brother's name), I told you not to bother her" she yelled

"Mom it's okay. I let him in" you tried to say, but your mom dragged him out before she could hear.

You were back in your room alone and in the quiet. Tears came down your cheek. You closed your eyes and slept.

When you awoke, it was dark outside. You wanted to go outside. You haven't been outside for so long. You missed the wind in your hair and you missed the stars in the sky.

You slowly got out of your bed. The bed that seemed to be your entire world. You quietly walked out your room and out of the busy hospital.

The first thing that hit you was the cold winter breeze. You were still wearing your hospital gown and it was less than appropriate for the weather, but you didn't care. This was your chance.
