Chapter 21: Potato Chipes?

thankfully the place was cleaned up before mom came back.

"Oh, kids."

"You didn't have to do this.."

"I could have cleaned up.." she assured after stepping through the backyard doorway.

I turned towards her from the sink, "nonsense, we actually insisted on it." I awkwardly reply.

"Hmm.." she smiled and tilted her head slightly.

Inuyasha and I peer at each other narrowly.

I sigh, "well, I better head off to town." I walk away from the sink and go into my room.

I grab a small pack I carry money and other personal items in when I go out, from the end of my bed.

then I walk back towards the kitchen again and peek around the wall, "coming Inuyasha?" I ask.

"oh, and don't forget your hat." I reminded him again.

"yeah yeah.." he huffs and swipes it off the table.

I disappear into the hallway, and he gets up and follows behind me.

"Have a nice time out you two!" mom calls and waves.

"we'll see.." I mumble as I walk out of the front door.

"hey? what's that supposed to mean?" Inuyasha retorted.

when we reached the steps that lead up to our shrine, Inuyasha starts whining.

"come on Inuyasha, we're walking," I call.

"down all of these steps?!" he curses.

"Why don't we just fly down there?" he suggests and starts to run.

"no Inuyasha!" I grab his ear and pull him back.

"We can't do that here.." I add.

"well why not?!" he growls.

"because people in my era aren't accustomed to seeing flying or floating Demons.."

"We have to be careful, alright?" I gently let go of his ear.

he folds his arms into his sleeves and furrows his eyebrows.

"fine.." he mutters.

I start walking down the steps.

"man- this place is boring.." he cries.

"I think you'll take that back once we get into town.." I assured.

"hmm, I don't think so," he replied with confidence.

"Alright then, I guess we'll just see," I say with a smile.

when we get to the sidewalk of the road, I pull out a list from my bag.

"Okay, let's see."

"hmm.. rice, salmon, dried seaweed. this shouldn't take too long." I overlook it quickly then stuff it back in a side pocket.

after a minute, I found it to be very silent.

"Inuyasha?" I call.

"Inuyasha?" I call again and look over my shoulder.

he was a couple of feet away from me, squatting next to some woman's dog.

she seemed friendly and kindly giggled as he inspected it.

I knew he wasn't hurting anything, but I had stuff to do, so I ran over to collect him.

"Inuyasha! come on we have to go, we have shopping to do." I grab his arm and pull him away.
