The wind was howling and the rain was pouring down at them and the Pearl.

Jack was shouting at his crew.
Kira was standing in the middle of the boat near the masts. Her hands raised in the air, fighting, trying to calm down the storm. She let all her power flow into her hands and it erupted in silver lightnings, but that didn't make the storm any better.

"Why doesn't it work?", she thought, "It used to work. Always."

Yes, it used to, but the power of the storm seemed to be too strong. Way stronger than usual.

Then, out of nowhere a gigantic wave  swapped over the boat and seemed to grab Kira with such strength, not even the rope she was tied on to could help her.

Jack's eyes had followed Kira's movements as she stood there, trying to help. Then, suddenly she was gone.
He felt like someone had just stabbed him with a sword.

Everything was still. The storm had ended the second Kira had vanished in the sea.

"Where is she?"
"Get a rope!"
"Can you see her?"
The crew members were shouting in panic, but Jack saw the relief in their faces as the storm was over.

Jack simply stood there. Staring. His expression kind of... blank.

"Captain?", Gibbs had come to stand next to him, "What do we do now?"
"She's gone," Jack said, his voice hollow.
"It was Nymphadora?", Gibbs guessed.
"Aye, who else?", Jack answered.

"So we just... leave her behind?", Gibbs said. That hit a nerve.
Jack looked at Gibbs. His eyes were huge, his expression still blank. Then he said,

"Don't. I... I can't. Why not? I just can't, okey?" It nearly seemed like he was in some kind of trance. Jack wasn't saying it to Gibbs, wasn't saying it to anyone in particular, more to himself. As if he had to remind himself of something.

Gibbs knew that the said words hadn't been for him, so he just asked, "Course, Captain?"

"Compass," Jack said, suddenly snapping back into reality and holding the black, old compass into the air. He looked at it.

It was pointing behind him. "To Kira," he thought, but he wouldn't admit it.

"We go forwards til we reach the horizon," he mumbled and for the first time in his life, he was running away from his deepest desire.

"Mr. Gibbs?"
"Aye, sir?"
"Make sail."
"But we can't just..., can we-"
"Make sail!", Jack interrupted.
"Aye. Make sail," Gibbs gave in.

Jack looked over his shoulders at the waves. Could it possibly be that he was scared of reaching his dream?

"Nymphadora...", he mumbled.
"It's not Kira I'm scared of. It's Nymphadora," he told himself.
But it didn't satisfy the part of him that was yelling at him for being a coward.

"Kiraaaaa!", the voice was deep and yet clear as a crystal.
"Mother, I-"
"Silence!"

Kira was floating in front of Nymphadora in the water, her skin now blue again, like her mother's. Just a bit lighter. Sometimes Kira wished she had dark skin like her sister.

"What was it that I told you not to do?", her mother hissed.

Kira tried it with a lie. "Mum, I'm not in love I swe-"
"Girl, who do you think you're fooling? I may be too old to rule the sea on my own and I need your sister's help, but I'm not stupid! I can see how you look at him. And I saw how you kissed him. Many times!"
