When I woke up I was in my bed with ice on my face. I guess Michael must've carried me upstairs. He left a note on my table that said

Lotty,

I noticed you fell asleep during the movie and I brought you upstairs. I also put some ice on your cheek to make sure it didn't swell. I will pick you up in the morning before school around 7:30am.

~Michael

I got up and looked in the mirror. My cheek wasn't as bad as it was yesterday. The handprint was fading and it was a pink color instead of a red. I quickly got ready for school and then I sat on my bed. I felt tears start to fall down my face. A lot had happened yesterday. My boyfriend tried to hit Jake and then we broke up and he hit me instead. I didn't think James would do that. He seemed so nice and sweet and caring but yesterday he was some kind of monster. I closed my eyes and laid back on my bed crying. How could James do that? Why would he do that?

That's when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Olivia. She looked at me "I heard what happened. Are you alright?" I nodded but she knew I wasn't. "Lotty I'm proud of you for standing up for yourself and not letting him treat you like that. He didn't deserve you." I looked at her and hugged her "Thanks Liv." She pulled away for a second "If anyone ever touches you again I will kill them. I will grab my big spatula and smack them across the face and make them have a bigger mark." I started laughing a little because I knew that Olivia would actually do that. She hugged me once more and then got up "Now clean up and go outside. Your friend is here to pick you up."

I got up and cleaned my face and then walked out the front door. Olivia stopped me before I walked down the saris and she hugged me. "Come home after school we can have a girls day." I smiled and hugged back "Alright sounds like a plan." I let her go and got into Michael's car. He was smiling. "What?" He laughed lightly "I heard what your sister said to you upstairs. I know that I should never mess with her." I giggled slightly "Ya she is kinda protective at times." He smiled and then began to drive. "I think that your sister being protective is a good thing. It shows you that no matter what happens there is always someone there for you." I stayed silent. He was right. Even though me and James broke up I still had Olivia. As long as I had Olivia I would be fine. I was no longer sad because I lost someone. I was happy because after everything I've been through I had my sister and she understood me.

As I was thinking Michael started to smirk. "What now?" He looked over at me "Oh nothing I'm just happy you agree that you'll be fine." How did he know that? "How'd you know that?" He smiled "I'm a vampire. I have super hearing and I can't compel people. I am also the only vampire who can read someone's mind." I looked up at him in shock. "You can read my mind?" He smiled and parked "Yup. Think of something." I started thinking of the day I hung out with Michael. The beautiful view. He smiled "You're thinking about the day we first hung out and the view." I smiled "That's crazy! I can't believe you can do that." He got out of the car and opened my door. "Lotty, there are a lot of things you don't know about me and the other vampires. For instance we don't need rings or anything like that to keep us from being in the sun. We don't burn or die. We are just like humans in that category. Some vampires like me have gained the strength to control our thirst. I don't drink from humans. I drink from animals and blood bags." So everything I knew about vampires and the sun was completely off. I thought they burned. I thought they were heartless. I thought they couldn't help but kill. God this was a lot to process.

Michael laughed so clearly he was reading my mind and I giggled. He grabbed my hand and began walking with me toward the school. Today I was going to be brave. Today I wouldn't show James I was weak. I would show him that I didn't need him. I would just be myself and focus on school and my friends. Today was all about friends and family. Today is going to be fun.
