"Jack! Give it! I was here first!" I yelled, angry at my 15 year old brother. I lunged at him again, trying to get the remote.
"That sucks. I'm older." He taunted, holding it out of my reach.
"Mom!" I yelled. There were faint footsteps and my mom appeared in the doorway.
"God damnit you guys can you just stop fighting for a little while?!" My mom yelled. She sunk down in the arm chair and sighed, rubbing her temples.
"I'm sorry. I have to work a night shift, and I'm already crabby as it is, so I would appreciate it if I could have some peace and quiet." My mom admitted. She was a police officer, and Jack and I both knew not to argue with her when she's crabby. We made eye contact and sat down on the couch. Jack handed my mom the remote.
"Thank you." She said. We watched the news for about an hour, before my mom had to leave.
"Alright, I'll be back in the morning. No trouble! Finns in charge! Love you!" She called out, closing the door behind her. I climbed up the stairs and went into the living room. I decided to watch Snow White. I popped the movie in and curled up on the couch, wrapping a blanket around myself.
"Hey Autumn." Finn greeted as he came in. I smiled.
"Hey." He sat down beside me and I snuggled up into his chest as he put his arm around me. Out of my whole family, I was closest with my 20 year old brother, Finn. When Finn left for college last year, I cried for days. And when my mom told me he was coming back, I nearly screamed.
I fell asleep about halfway through the movie, and Finn carried me back to my room and tucked me in.
The next morning, I woke up, blinded by the sunlight streaming in through my windows. I groaned and stood up, stretching. I looked at the clock, 11:30. Geez I barely ever slept this late. I walked out of my room and down the stairs. I walked into the kitchen and poured myself a bowl of cereal. When I finished, I decided to watch tv for a bit. After a little while, I heard the front door open and slam again. I heard someone kick off their shoes.
"Finn! Jack! Autumn! Come here please!" My mom called out. I walked into the dining room and greeted my mom, along with the rest of my family.
"Okay so... Last night a man named Darrel Curtis came into the station. He's been offered a job position in Washington D.C., working for the President, for a couple months, and he needs to find his siblings a place to stay, I suggested that they stay here, in the guest room, but I wanted to make sure you all were okay with it before I call him and confirm." My mom explained.
"Well since I'm going to be back at college soon, I'm fine with it." I frowned when Finn said that.
"I'm okay with it too." I said. Jack hesitantly agreed.
"Great! I'll call Darrel." My mom told us, leaving the room. I went back into the living room and turned on Mickey Mouse. It must've been about forty minutes before the door bell rang. I hopped up to get it. I opened the door to three boys.
"Hello. My name is Darrel Curtis." The older looking one greeted.
"Oh hi! I'm Autumn. One minute let me go get my mom." I told him. I got my mom and followed her back to the door, after getting my siblings.
"Oh Darrel hi! Nice to see you again!" My mom exclaimed.
"You too ma'am. These are my brothers, Sodapop, 16, and Ponyboy, 14." Darrel told her.
