Chapter 3 ~ Kiss Cheat

Chapter 3 ~ Kiss Cheat

Annabeth Chase

     The Athena cabin proudly holds the record for most wins in Capture the Flag. And our favorite tactics involved messing up the opponent's plans. Usually, we would send a main group in the middle to distract whatever group is coming for us and send two other teams, one to distract defenders and the other to steal the flag in stealth while we would be waiting here with open arms. 

     Andreana, one of my half sisters suggested "Annabeth... Jason is expecting us to use Tactic 21A again. He knows thats the best shot we have."

     I studied the map of the troops we expect "Then he's going to send all his troops forward in the middle immediately because that's the only way that he thinks will surprise us. Then he will send other troops around. Right?"

     My siblings nodded in agreement with eyes intent on the map. Malcolm moved one of the red circles forward and placed the rest around the field "Then we go defense, all of our troops will also be waiting for them."

     I put on circle at the blue team flag "Exactly, while the blue team is flustered when their straight forward Offense team is intercepted by our Defense team. They'll never make it through the tight defense and station their best shot, Nico to shadow travel and steal the flag."

     Leila pointed at one of the red circles in the blue base "We know that if the enemy team drops the flag or the defense will be able to get their flag back, its game over."
   
     I placed another red circle "Exactly, when Nico will javelin the flag towards the defense. One will distract the defense by undercover ambush and the other will take the flag."

     One of my siblings asked "Then who will be the ambush team? We all know Poseidon Cabin is always in their defense team against Athena Cabin."

     Malcolm added "But, Percy Jackson never wins against Annabeth Chase."

     I nudged him to shut up and gave each of my siblings a group to handle "As for the interception of the flag at the end. Malcolm, I trust you to take charge of that part. Leave the defense team to me."

     When the conch horn sounded, I put on my invisibility cap and together with Malcolm we took the longest and most untraveled route towards the Blue team base. On the way we saw the blue team clash with our Main troops in the mid section of the forest with surprise evident on their faces at the huge number of the Main group. We were careful not to step on any branches but were almost caught by Adelene and Kristina hiding behind bushes.

     I halted into a stop as Adelene turned to where we were standing. They immediately stood up and without warning, she thrust her hand forward and a wave of water from the river splashed towards us and hit the air mere inches from us. That put their guard down "Okay, I think it was just a squirrel."

     Adelene went back to teaching her sister about controlling water as we, with adrenaline pumping in our veins, made it past them. Malcolm said in a hushed voice "Close call... We didn't expect their defense to stretch this far."

     I replied as the Blue flag came into view "Relax, it means there are lesser people near the flag."

     We stationed ourselves behind the Blue team's base in a area with thick shrubbery. We waited barely breathing as I spotted Percy behind a nearby boulder. Malcolm asked "You think he's the only one?"
