Chapter 7 ~ Ditched

Percy Jackson

If there was one thing I hated, it was Portals of any sort. I have nothing against the reduced Time and Effort needed for transportation but the portal busniess leaves a case of vomiting episodes and a sore spot in your head. And, I did not include there the physical injury that happens when you appear suddenly 20 feet above the ground.

I would have broken nearly every single bone in my lower body if it weren't for the fountain below me where the water cushioned my fall. The mortals definitely didn't see a 18 year old suddenly appear out of thin air but, they did give me dirty looks at the huge splash I made as I fell.

I quickly stepped out of the fountain, dripping wet. Guess I didn't have time to think of being dry which I was thankful for or it would have attracted more attention.

I looked around for the Goddess that brought me here "So, what now?"

The Mortals around me continued on with whatever they were doing, a slight breeze rustled the trees around me and the temperature dropped a little despite the summer heat but there was no signs of an Egyptian Goddess. Great... Now I was supposed to find a magical hourglass in the middle of Manhattan, alone.

I had given up and was about to turn to the buildings for any clues when I saw a trail of Spiders on the ground.

I know it is your every day sight but, you don't see a group of spider with Golden Hieroglyphs on their backs everyday. There was no way I was going to figure out the Hieroglyph but obviously it was some sort of message from the Goddess.

I muttered as I trailed the path the spiders were taking "Why follow the spiders not follow the Bread crumbs or something."

I was almost glad that Annabeth wasn't here with me today or I would have a bigger problem of calming down a screaming girlfriend from her worst nightmare.

The spiders led me into a row of buildings were I saw several e-gaming shops and other stores. My dyslexia had the names of the stores messed up but judging from the surroundings I was somewhere in Upper East Manhattan.

The spiders led to a gaming merchandise store that had several teenage boys inside, swarming mostly in groups. I never had much experience with gaming since an hour on a computer can put a minimum of 15 Monsters on my trail but I did know some from listening to boys talk at school.

The building was classic white with almost 20 floors. I suspected the store wasn't just one floor. There was a huge billboard on top of the building showing several characters fighting and stuff. The name of the game read Legeu for Leggers.

Sorry, I'm dyslexic but that's the best I can figure... I waited for the light to turn green as the spiders also waited in a cluster. I doubt anybody had noticed a huge group of Golden Spiders since they didn't even glance at it.

As soon as I crossed the road, the spiders disappeared and I knew I was headed towards bad luck. When you're a demigod, you just get that queasy feeling when you are near bad stuff like monsters, traps, blood hungry Immortals and others that go straight down the list of nasties.
