this is NOT a love story

stephen had been working for quite some time now, he found himself telling david that he couldn't hang out. he said he was always too busy. david felt as is stephen was just pushing him away.

they've been together for a little over 2 years now and stephen wants to propose to david, but seeing the way that things are going between them, it doesn't seem like much of a good idea.

stephen has moved out and has gone to live with david in their own shared flat. david was sick and tired of getting home from work and going home to an empty bed and waking up to it too.

he's told stephen many times and he's given him an ultimatum: he either find a job with better hours or he's gone.

stephen has been so conflicted trying to figure it all out, he's asked his parents for help too and they both said the same thing: "what do you love more: david or your job?" and he hasn't been able to respond.

he got home one night and found an empty bed with a note on the nightstand. it read:

dearest stephen,
wow, i never thought in a million years that i would be writing to you like this. i guess there's a first time for everything. it's funny, i used to picture us being together forever. guess i was a fool for believing that, huh? i'll keep this short for you, i was sick of coming home and waking up to an empty bed. i want to be with you, what's the point of being together if i never see you? this is goodbye stephen, i'm going home to london borough with my mother for a while. here's this month's rent.

he couldn't believe what he had just read. his david was gone. he was all alone. he didn't know what to do so he called anthony. "dad! what do i do?! he's gone! he's gone!" he kept repeating into the phone.

"calm down mate, what's wrong? who's gone?" stephen took a deep breath and tried to speak as calmly as possible, "david, dad. he's gone. he's left me. said he was going to live with his mom for a while." and then came the waterworks.

anthony thought for a moment as he heard his son crying on the other side. "stephen, listen to me. do you love him?"

"yes."

anthony smiled and only said four words: "then go get him" and so he did as told. he ran to his car and drove as fast as he could to david's mother's house. he may have gotten a speeding ticket or two, but he didn't care.

he made it to her house after what felt like forever and saw david waving his mother off. it was saturday so stephen figured that she was going to her bingo game with her friends. he quickly got out of the car and yelled.

"david! wait!"

david had almost closed the door when he heard a voice that was all too familiar. "stephen?" he whispered to himself. he couldn't believe what he was seeing. it was stephen sprinting straight to his doorstep.

he let a small smirk creep up to his face as he watched stephen trip and stumble. he couldn't let stephen see him happy when he's upset with him. he quickly closed the door and slid down the door.

stephen ran right into the door and fell back, but he didn't let that stop him. he quickly got himself back up and sat against the door like david was. he let out a sigh and began talking.

"david? i know you probably can't hear me, but i just wanted to tell you that i'm sorry. i made a
mistake. i was stupid. i chose my job over you and i shouldn't have."

he lightly banged his head on the door, "god how could i have been so stupid. when you left i was going to tell you something but you weren't home. i came here for several reasons, one of them being to tell you that i quit."

david wiped the tears that had fallen down his face, "oh stephen." he whispered to himself. "david are you there?" stephen turned around to face the door on one knee and placed his hands on the door, resting his head on the door.

"please open the door. i was stupid to have let you go. please david. i- i love you." and that's when david carefully opened the door. he got on his knees and hugged stephen.

"i love you too."

stephen hugged david tightly, as if he was never going to see him again. "please david, i'm sorry. what can i do get you back?" he cried into david's shoulder and awaited for a response.

"stephen..."
