A plethora of bullets smashed through the kitchen window where Cara now was sitting eating a sandwich.
"Shit!" She said, dropping to the floor as quick as possible and crawling towards the stairs to Karlies bedroom.
"Boss!" She shouts entering the bedroom where both girls were asleep, oblivious to the loud sound of gunshots sounding through the lower floor of the house.
"Huh?" Karlie asked groggily, moving away from Taylor as quickly as possible, but that was the last thing on her mind.
Just as Karlie sat up, a single bullet went flying past her, missing her nose by millimetres.
"Taylor!" She whisper shouted to wake the girl up. "Get on the floor," and Taylor obeyed the command.
"What's going on?" Taylor asks, scared as more bullets fly above them.
"Go to the study, I'll be there in a second," she said to both girls, and they knew better than to object and made their way out of the room.
Carefully, Karlie picks up an empty bullet shell and observes it, just as she expected, a detailed cobra was delicately carved onto it - and her theory was confirmed, it was The Cobras.
She pockets it, and then makes her way to the study where she finds Cara and Taylor laying behind the desk out of view of the window.
Karlie grabs a large backpack that was hers - it had always been kept on the side in case of an attack like this.
Passport. Money. Weapons. Spare clothes.
The only things they needed.
Flipping the corner of the red rug that lay in the centre of the room, Karlie made her way to what lay beneath it - trap door.
"Come on, they're probably going to come in the house soon to check if we're dead or not," she whispered to Cara and Taylor, trying to get them out of the house as quick as possible.
They clambered down the stairs with Karlie going last, closing the door and locking it from the inside of the tunnel that it had lead them in.
The girls had already begun walking and she jogged lightly to catch up with them.
After around fifteen minutes of walking in the dark tunnel, Taylor sees a faint light about a hundred metres away.
"That's the exit," Karlie says as she pushed ahead of the girls to open it for them.
They found themselves almost a mile into the forest that was behind their house. The air was chilly and Taylor shivered slightly as she saw Karlie walking ahead with a compass and took longer strides to catch up to her.
After another ten minutes of light jogging, they come to a halt and Karlie looks around in search of something, "ah there it is," she says, pulling a camouflaged sheet over what was revealed to be a black Range Rover by a dusty road that lead all the way from one end of the forest to the other.
They made their way out of the woods and none of them say a word the whole car journey despite Taylor and Cara not even knowing where Karlie was talking them. They were still in shock at the situation.
They pull up outside of an apartment building and follow the gang leader as she pressed the buzzer and was granted access and made her way up the stairs to the 12th floor.
Karlie stopped at a door and knocked, a familiar face answered.
"Karlie!" Kristine said, wrapping her sister in a hug. The younger sister grimaced at the touch on her wound. "Oh my god. I'm so sorry, I forgot you were shot."
