Cara had been complaining of how hungry she was got the last hour and finally Karlie agreed to stop at a restaurant, if only to shut Cara up more than anything else.
They drive for a little while longer before eventually stopping.
It was now early afternoon, and they had now stopped at a small and hidden restaurant in Kansas. It was pretty much empty, but they still opted for a secluded table nearer to the back just in case - Karlie was almost sure that the assassins didn't know where they were at this point.
The tension between Karlie and Taylor was at an all time high at this point. Neither acknowledged the other, acting like ten year olds who were annoyed at their best friend. It had been fine considering they were in seperate cars, but now they were awkwardly sat side by side in a booth. Lauren and Camila obviously sat together and no one was surprised when Cara wanted to sit next to Selena, leaving Karlie and Taylor to sit next to each other.
There was an uncomfortable atmosphere surrounding the table, and no one could get rid of it - no matter how many inappropriate jokes Cara told, the laughter was always forced when coming from Karlie and Taylor.
"Hey guys, I've got a another joke!" Cara said excitedly.
Lauren rolled her eyes and Selena groaned, "not again," Camila said.
"Shut up and listen you humourless freaks. Why wouldn't the shrimp share his treasure?" She paused for effect, "because he was shellfish." Cara burst out laughing from her own joke.
"I think I speak for everyone at the table when I say that takes the cake for the worst joke ever told," Selena laughed, as she nudged the girl beside her playfully.
This time Taylor couldn't help but smile a little at the friendly banter and Karlie cursed herself for looking at her when she had. Watching Taylor smile made her heart swell in her chest a little and she knew she was fucked because of how much she liked this girl. She couldn't find it in herself to stay frustrated at her.
"I'm going for a cigarette," Karlie announced, standing up from her seat and making her way outside whilst fumbling with the lighter in her pocket.
"I'm going to the bathroom," Selena said and no one was surprise when Cara got up and followed her - Taylor watched them enter, laughing like school kids. She couldn't help but be suspicious of Caras motives - hadn't she admitted to being in love with Karlie about a week ago. And that's just when she said it out loud, no one knows how long she felt that way before hand. This was her best friend and surely she had to warn her or tell her to at least be cautious.
"Something on your mind?" Camila asked her, holding Lauren's hand on top of the table.
"Yeah, you kind of zoned out for a second there," Lauren agreed.
"No, I'm just tired," she lied.
"If it's about Karlie, you can tell us. We won't run and tell her what you said," Camila explained with a soft smile.
Taylor sighed because she really wanted to get it off her chest, "it's not about Karlie... it's about Selena," she admitted.
"Oh, what about her?" Lauren asked.
"I'm just scared that she's going to get her heart broken by Cara," the blonde said, explaining her thoughts vaguely. She didn't want to tell them that she had eavesdropped on a conversation where she found out that Cara had told Karlie she was in love with her.
