Believe in Me

Today couldn't have gotten any worse.

As time went on, you swore the world was against you. Your job sucked, but it was a necessary as you couldn't get through your studies without it. However, the more you worked to make up your finance, the more your studies suffered. If you weren't at work, you were in the library and it was really starting to take it's toll on your social life. Your friends had stopped asking you along to their plans, leaving you green with envy on your work or study breaks as you scrolled through their social media, watching them pose and enjoy their lives with their friends and partners. Oh, another thing you didn't have. Your love life was as depressing as your grades.

So today was the day you finally snapped. You threw your papers to the floor, uncaring of the impending assignments coming up and stuck your aching feet into your hiking shoes and called a Lyft to take you to your favourite trail in the mountains. No more papers, no more infuriating customers, just you and the peaceful atmosphere clearing your mind for the next few hours.

Lighting up with a notification, you lifted your phone to glance at the message that told you your car was waiting outside so you swiftly slid your sunglasses, hoping it hid just how tired you felt and jogged out to the car.

"Hi, sorry if you were waiting long!"

"No, I wasn't. Hi, my names Samantha!" Accepting her hand with a smirk, you held the soft skin gently. "But you can call me Sam. Nice to meet you!

The whole exchange seemed kind of too friendly but you shrugged it off. At least it wasn't some old man that grunted at you like usual. "I'm Y/N, it's good to meet you too..."

"Sorry, did I come off too eager? I'm new here like I just started so I don't know the whole protocol yet, you know?"

"No worries." You shared a smile before putting your attention on to the strangers passing by, wanting the car to reach the destination as soon as possible.

"Yeah. I just wanted a job you know, that's like cool for the summer."

"Yeah, I guess it must have its perks." An awkward silence took over the expensive car and that's all it took for you to sigh and decide to make more conversation. She was so friendly but if she's new at her job, you might as well be one of the nicer customers. Your job made it clear how many assholes were about these days. "So, do you do anything else besides this?"

"I actually like really wanna be a singer someday! I've actually been travelling the country, with my ex-boyfriend's brother." She sniggered, making you giggle along, listening to the soothing sound of her voice. "Um, yeah. He sings too so we kind of want to get our names out there. We attend open mic nights and whatever we can do... so yeah."

"That's pretty cool. I hope you get there someday." Encouraging her was well worth it as the most beautiful smile lit up her tan face, a light blush flaring up on her cheeks.

"That's really sweet of you. Thanks. What is it that you do, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I'm a student, although maybe not for long."

"What does that mean?"

"I work a lot to keep up the money so I can actually attend college but it seems it's becoming too much. I can't do my studies without money so maybe I'll have to put it on hold for a while."

"Oh, that's a shame. Don't give up so easily though. Something good may come your way and I fully believe you can ace your studies."

"Thank you."

"So you aren't working today?"

"No, thankfully not. Today was my day off to get my assignment done but for my own sanity, I decided to take a hike to clear my head."
