A Letter To Those Who Underestimate Me.

To whoever dares to underestimate me,

I am very sorry for your loss. It seems that you have missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime. If you had indeed scoured properly through my EHCP and other records, you would realize I lay more claim to success and a bright future than is normal for an autistic person to usually be able to profess. Let me enlighten you.

Since nursery, I have been in the mainstream school system, and throughout my education, I have progressed in leaps and bounds. In Primary, it was more of a struggle. However, I did eventually, towards the end of those years, surpass most of my peers, especially in English and arts lessons. Honestly, I am mature beyond my years and my record, regarding behaviour, is so clean that you'd be able to perceive the reflection of your face in it. I have achieved grades that some of your students', employees', etc, portfolios would pale in comparison to, which I won't bother to state here, with the understanding that you probably still don't believe me. You've probably only taken the time to skim through the information regarding me back when I was transferring to secondary. That was, what, more than half a decade ago? I think that's about right. Then again, it does say in my EHCP that I have an unusual outlook on time. Of course, you'd confirm this, had you actually read my EHCP. Not that it matters anyway. If you won't take me as I am presently, you'll never have me.

The fact that you had the audacity to state that I may wish to search for a special educational needs institution makes me laugh, I have to admit. Apologies, sir, but we are not acquainted, and yet you still bear the notion that I am incapable? I've met adults less capable than myself. I am a very highbrow young person, who possesses the knowledge of exactly what they're capable of. If you are led to believe that I am affronted, please do not assume so. I am merely confuzzled by the fact that you lack belief in my talent, and as a result, I express my sympathy towards your naïve close-mindedness. I have no knowledge of your experiences, yet I wish to emote that you seem so ignorant of people like us that you turn to your arrogance. Then, you turn up your nose to anything different to what you've ever been exposed to. It's a shame. Your facilities showed such promise, and, frankly, I had originally desired to be a part of your community. After the message I've been sent, I am reconsidering my choices. Maybe, sir, you'd like to reconsider yours. Ignorance isn't bliss if you miss an opportunity to be great. Even if you don't change your mind, I hope you can comprehend how your view affects mine and other people's futures, as well as your own.

I hope you have a bright future, sir, where you may learn the reality of those different from you. The words I have written are in sympathy of your narrow vision. If I have offended you, I apologize. This is my opinion, and I hope that you have allocated the time to read this until the end, contrary to my EHCP.

Sincerely,

Ember, the flame you've lost.
