As Joe was explaining to the camera the situation in relation to the rumours of his and Dianne's engagement, he heard her little reply.
"I mean who want to marry me? Right?" Joe didn't process it for a second but once he did he immediately stopped what he was saying and turned to her with a disappointed look.
"Don't put yourself down like that." By the time he turned to her he saw her face looking downwards as she breathed in sharply. "Di?" When she didn't look back up, Joe leaned over and placed a finger under her chin, using it to tip her head back. He was rather taken back to see tears streaming down her cheeks as she cried silently. "Di, what's wrong tell me." Joe asked in the softest voice imaginable.
"I just need a minute, you finish this." She motioned to her ring and the camera. She stood up but Joe grabbed her arm.
"Di-"
"I'll be in bed." She smiled despite the tears still running down her face. Joe couldn't move, had he said something to upset her? What had happened in the last five minutes to make her cry? After a long think, Joe went about making Dianne some food. They had yet to eat and he figured she could definitely use some now. He cooked pasta which was her favourite and even made a heart with the sauce, which he knew would make her smile. After he finished, he carefully approached the bedroom. He opened the door to see her laid on his side, still, except from the occasional shake of her body due to her tears. "Hi baby. I made you dinner." Joe said.
"Thanks." She made no move to get it.
"Are you going to tell me what's wrong now?"
"I'm fine."
"Di we know that's a lie. Is it about what I said?" For the first time, Dianne moved onto her other side and looked at Joe.
"Not entirely." She said as fresh tears fell from her eyes. Joe used to pad of his thumb to wipe them away.
"Please tell me what's wrong?" He asked again.
"It's just- it's just true isn't it?" Joe was about to ask what she meant before she spoke again. "Who would want to marry me? I'm 29, practically passed my sell by date, there's 4 billion people in this world prettier than me and the rest are men. I'm not the best at anything, I have red hair just because I look appalling without it. Every single person my age is settled down, maybe with a few kids, and I'm- I am just me." She shrugged, with a sad smile on her face. "I mean who would want to marry this?" She looked down at her body and back up to Joe's blue eyes.
"I knew I wanted to marry you the day I met you." Joe honestly told her. "From the very moment I saw you I knew I wanted to, and I still do now." She looked into his eyes for any sign of a lie, but she couldn't find it. "I shouldn't have been so straight forward on camera without explaining it to you, that was wrong of me." He admitted his mistake. "If I didn't explain it so clearly, people would've found gaps within my words and this thing would've been never ending, but one day I do want to marry you, I hate to hear you talk so badly about yourself. Because honestly, I've never ever been like this with anyone, I love you" He said. "So much" he whispered the final part very softly. Dianne leant to up so they could share a sweet, long kiss.
"I want to marry you also." Dianne admitted.
"Can't wait for the day. Now have you cheered up?" Dianne smiled and nodded. "I don't like hearing you talk so negatively about yourself. You're gorgeous Di, and even if you weren't that wouldn't matter because you have the biggest heart."
"Thank you."4 years later.
"Joe I'm so cold." Dianne shivered as Joe dragged her though the streets of London. They had had a date night. Joe took her to a beautiful restaurant before they watched a film in the park, which was something Dianne had always wanted to do. Now it was nearing 9pm and it was September. September in the UK is not very warm, especially for the Australian born girl.
"We're nearly there I promise." Dianne questioned how Joe wasn't near freezing. He had given her his jacket about 8 streets back. He was running off adrenaline. Finally they reached a little bench, that overlooked a gorgeous river, and just behind it was a cafe. Dianne knew this place very well, but they hadn't visited in years. "Have we seriously walked all this way for a coffee?" Dianne groaned. But she giggled as well. She would walk to the other end of the earth for Joe.
"Di shut up." Joe said.
"Or are we here did a late night swim? Because if so I forgot my cozzy!" Joe smiled and shook his head at her. Trust Dianne to be yapping on in the most important moment of his life.
"Trust you to ruin this moment." Joe joked. "Now shush, let me speak."
"Hurry before I freeze to death." Joe rolled his eyes and put his finger over mouth, insinuating her to be quiet, before removing it to place his hands in his pockets.
"5 years ago to this exact day, we accidentally met right here. We hadn't even been to our first proper shooting of strictly yet we both popped up right here at the same time, I had never even been to this cafe before." Joe looked down and when he raised his head he saw Dianne about to speak so he quickly carried on. "Within those 5 you have gone from my friend, to dance partner, to best friend, to girlfriend and to the most important person in my life. I couldn't imagine a day without speaking to you, and I can't think of anyone else in the world I'd rather be with."
"Joe I'm not following-"
"Di just shush." He laughed. Joe was already getting emotionally, and his completely adorable girlfriend not being able to keep up wasn't helping. "4 years ago you said no one wanted to marry you and I told you that I knew I wanted to marry you the moment I met you, and I have never said anything more correct in my life." Joe took a deep breath as he began to pull out his hand from his pocket. "And 4 years ago I told you I couldn't wait till the day. So, here we are." Joe laughed slightly. He slowly lowered himself to the floor as he watched the realisation smack Dianne in the face. "Dianne Buswell, will you marry me?" The tears streaming down her face, and the nod of her head was all Joe saw before she wrapped her arms round his neck and they stood together, in the place they first met.3 years later.
