Special.

Chapter 3

I'm only surrounded by darkness for a few seconds. Then I'm back to reality. I wonder why I didn't noticed how dull it seemed in my mind because I can tell my vivsion's more focused here. I see the boy back away from me.

"Get them!" he yells while pointing at us. I hate him.

"Run!" I yell just as loudly. My friends, who like the idiots they are, haven't moved yet. Suddenly, we're surrounded. The boy smiles at me. I know he's just doing this to my friends just to get to me. I raise my hands protectively. "Lily, what in the world are you doing! Get back here!" I hear May yell. Gosh, she's probably terrified for me. She still thinks I don't have powers. Well that's gonna change.

:"No one hurts MY friends!" I yell with flames in my hands. Out of the corner of my eye, I see everyone gasp. I think changes were just made.

The boy looks at me evilly. I hate him. Absolutely hate him. I make the flames force the men back.  Some try to charge the flames and got burnt. And I mean burnt. All the ones who charged quickly retreated and the ones who didn't charge backed up. The boy frowns at me and I hear in my mind, "We'll be back." And he calls the men to retreat.

They all leave and I turn towards my friends. They all look shocked except for May. She's mad. She yells at me.

"Why didn't you tell us! Why didn't you tell me!"

I almost fall because I remember the word my parents used. Demon. Am I one? Is that what she thinks? I burst out crying and run out. What was I thinking? I showed them I'm special. I run out and run into the village. I pause as I stop between the school and the village, comparing. The village is of our time. Clay houses, small rooms, and crappy technology. Our school is way advanced though. The building is enormous. It has about ten rooms all fit into a concrete building.

I run to the two-room hut that Melinda and I live in. I run in while she is mediating.

"Rebels attacked our school and I used my powers."

I say as fast as I can. Melinda looks at me annoyed and I honestly don't care. I quickly tell her how everything happened. She listens to it all calmly and says, "They will come back." I gape at her.

"How can you just say that!"

She sighs and says, "Lily, it is time you've learned of  the prophecy." I'm confused, "What prophecy?" She begins to chant, "When the time of dark comes, only three can save us. One of fire, water, and grass will come. Grass will be the strong one, the one who can speak. Water will be the trickster, the one who sneaks. And the fire shall be the one of hope, who must learn how to believe."

She finishes and smiles "My girl, you are the one of fire." 

I gape at her, not being able to think. I finally knew what 'special' meant. It meant I was supposed to save the world. Funny, how I wouldn't of looked at it that way before, hmm. She begins to speak again.

"Only ten may go, including you, to help you retrieve the other two."

"WHAT! You didn't tell me that I have to get the others!"

She sighs, but she's used to it. All the time I say things like this. 

"Lily," she says, speaking softer. "I have foreseen my death." I freeze. She never foresees something that is far away in the future. She sees my look and says, "My dear, you know it had to happen, I'm old." Of course I knew this, but I didn't accept it. She looks twenty, a trick that all fortune tellers do, but she's like 100 years old. 

I quietly say, "So, you won't join me?"

It's hard to believe because since that day when she took me in, we've always been together. Now though, I guess not. 

"No, I will live what time I have left here. To protect the school from those northerners."

I nod, "So ten people including me, right. So, nine of my friends?"

"Yes, and only bring your most trusted friends along too. There will be a force that only you can stop that will try to get to your friends during the journey. Be careful Lily, be careful." 

And with that, I leave the hut forever.
