*Lily*

Liam didn't seem too happy to be dragged to the group, but he fit in well.

He got along with May and Rose, sharing in their type of humor. He also got along with Dan, which was hard for anyone to do. Although, it did feel like Liam wanted to strangle Dan a few times in their conversation.

Ben still wouldn't talk to anyone but Ella, but she liked Liam as well. He was friendly enough for Bronie to get along with him, but Bronie didn't seem like he was okay with having a new member in the group. I didn't blame him.

It couldn't be a coincidence that we lost Violet and gained Liam so soon after. It made me suspicious, but I talked to Liam, and now I trusted him. He gave us wonderful information about what the plan was for me if I ever did get captured, and it was already clear what they would do to my friends. They would kill them.

I pushed the thought from my mind and it seemed dinner went by too fast and I had to tell them Liam's story.

As soon as I was done, May spoke up saying, "Who names their kid Larry? Of all the things! Can you imagine calling a little baby Larry? Like, 'Hello little Larry, this is the world!'" She basically ranted while we all nodded in agreement, even Ben.

I smiled at the way the group was acting like themselves again.

"Well," said Twyla, "what do we do next? I mean, we can't travel all the way to Handtred on foot!"

I looked at her.

"How far is it exactly?" I ask.

"Ten day hike, we don't have that much time, you know that! Whatever the northerners plan to do, they won't stop until they have you two! By the way, do you know what your element is Liam?" Twyla said in one go.

Liam looked down.

"What's wrong?" I ask.

He refused to look at me.

*Liam*

I couldn't say that I didn't know, I couldn't.

"What is it?" Lily asked.

She wanted to help, that was clear. Oh, why didn't I just tell her about this while we were by ourselves.

"Can we...um well..... can I talk to you about that somewhere else." I manage to choke out.

Lily nodded, her face seemed to have a natural expression that said that she understood why I wanted privacy.

We went a little ways away and I said, "I don't know my element."

Lily's mouth opened slightly and then she clamped it shut.

"But they still went after you!" Her words of frustration weren't directed at me like I was used to. 'She's mad at the northerners.' I think and look at her.

Lily really did look young in her face.

She didn't deserve to be here. I kinda surprised myself with thinking it, but it was true. The good in this girl was easy to read and it made her weaker. I reminded myself of the flames inside her, burning and wanting to get out.

She hit her hand to her head saying, "Think, think, think!" And finally stopped. She was smiling and looking at me.

"Do you have a amulet?" she asked. I nodded and lifted it up out of my shirt. She motioned for me to take it off and I did.

She took it and looked at both sides before exclaiming, "Your element is water!" and handing the amulet back.

"What?" I said.

"Look at the water drop on the back! I have a symbol with fire and you have water! We just need to teach you to use it!" She was smiling triumphantly.

I nodded and said, "How are you going to train me?"

Her smile stayed in it's place as she said, "Simple, most people with power have to work hard with their brains to get their power to work. We just have to use our emotions."

I looked at her, confused.

"You mean, all the fire that came to your hand was summoned by emotion?"

Her smile wavered. She just shruggs and says, "It came natural, like, it's just always ready, waiting for me to tell it to go."

I nodded, understanding a little better.

Lily yawned and I did too. When we stopped we both smiled and laughed at each other. She was beginning to feel like a sister to me now.

Lily looked at the night sky and said, "I'll tell the others tomorrow the problem, for now I'm hitting the sack."

I watched as the girl climbed up the tree and once she was at the top yelled down, "Twyla should be able to get you a sleeping bag!" and seemed to instantly fall asleep.

I smiled and began to find my way to the small tent where Twlya was keeping supplies.
