"Where exactly are we going?" I asked, peering out my window.
"Only the best of the best places," Truffle said.
"And where would that be?" I asked.
"The mall," Jade replied, tapping the wheel.
"I don't have any money," I protested. "Probably could've just stayed home."
"I'll pay," Landon said.
"He's flexing," Jade muttered.
"I am not," Landon said. "I'm just trying to be nice."
"Flexer," Truffle said. Landon dropped his hands in his lap and leaned his head back.
"I forgot about how boring the mall can be," Jade said. Truffle gasped.
"How dare you?" Truffle demanded. I rolled my eyes, and spotted a store that I haven't seen before. In the display I saw a pair of shoes that caught my attention.
"Hm," I mumbled.
"Well, I'd like to have some girl time," Jade announced, taking my hand.
"We'll meet at Wendy's?" Landon suggested.
"Sounds amaze!" Truffle said, linking arms with Landon. Landon eyed Truffle hardcore and tried to get away, but Truffle already was dragging him into a store.
"Finally," Jade said, smiling. "Anyways, we should get you some earrings."
"Oh, my ears aren't pierced," I said. I got them pierced when I was eight, but decided to take them out two months later and let them close.
"What?" Jade asked. "Oh my god, they aren't! We're getting them pierced!"
"Oh, that's not nec-" Jade was already walking towards Claire's. I groaned and followed her.
Before I knew it, I was sitting in the pink plastic chair with the entire mall to see. Why did the chair have to be outside of the store?
"Which one would you like?" The lady held out a sheet with pictures of little earrings. There were tiny gold balls to blue stars with smiley faces on them. I stared at them in disbelief. I was a senior in high school getting my ears pierced by a place for girls under the age of twelve.
"Choose or I'll choose for you," Jade said, tapping her foot impatiently.
"I'm about to get stabbed in the ear, shut up," I said, skimming the sheet one more time.
I ended up picking out these tiny pearls. When I told the lady what I wanted she picked up a gun. A mother fucking gun. Well it was a tiny gun. With the pearl earrings in them.
"Want to hold my hand?" Jade asked. I gripped her hand as the lady cleaned my ear lobes and held the gun up to my ear.
"One, two..." The lady counted down. I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Three!"
Ca-chunk! Ca-chunk!
"Did and done," Jade said. I opened my eyes.
"Wait, it's over?" I asked, letting go of Jade's hand.
"Yep," The lady said, handing me a mirror. My lower ears were bright red, and in the middle was the tiny white pearls. I smiled, feeling kind of giddy.
"Oh my gosh, they look so cool," I said, turning my head to look at them better.
"I have a lot," Jade said, tucking her hair behind her ears. She had five in each ear. I was jealous, not going to lie.
"Wow," I said.
"Clean them twice a day," The lady said, handing me a bag. "And come pay when you're ready."
"Let's get you some other earrings too," Jade said.
"Guess who got their ears pierced!" Jade squealed, putting her hands on my shoulders and pushing me up to Landon.
"You did what?!" Truffle demanded. "Without me?"
"Surprise?" I asked, smiling shyly. Landon brushed some hair away from my ears.
"Wow, they look awesome on you," Landon said, smiling. I bit the inside of my cheek and looked away.
"We should probably get going," Truffle said. "It's already 5:30."
"Stupid how the mall closes at 6:00 today," Jade said. I didn't really care about the mall closing, or that Truffle didn't come with me to get my ears pierced. I haven't felt this good about myself in a long time.
