In Your Eyes

"Of course everyone loves me!" Truffle exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.

"Girlie, I saw Landon," Truffle said. "He looks miserable."

"That's weird," I said, crossing my arms. "Oh, wait..."

"You gotta talk to him," Jade said. "Trust me, he's been waiting." Truffle nodded.

"How do you know?" I asked.

"He clearly likes you," Truffle said. "It's too obvious."

"I'm sure," I said, hugging myself even more. "I mean, why would he even like me?" Jade snorted.

"I'd tell you but I can't," Jade snickered. "Anyways, see ya!" Truffle and Jade turned away, walking off to their next class. They looked so beautiful next to each other. Like bright red roses, and I was the one being plucked because I was starting to lose petals and fade.

~***~

Rousing from a restless sleep is the worst. I was shivering, and clutching the collar of my shirt. My room is gray and gloomy, and the curtains moved along with the freezing morning wind. I relax my face, realizing I was in my room, safe. I got up and closed the window.

My comforter started moving and buzzing. I threw my blankets aside and picked up my phone. There were several texts from Truffle and Jade.

E: what's wrong?
T: look at the fucking time! You're late for school!

I almost dropped my phone. Not good. Truffle said that Landon would be waiting at my locker at 7:30, and it was 7:25! I missed the bus.

E: jesus, oh my god!
J: what're you doing?! Get your ass up and over to school!

I threw a different shirt on and a hoodie, and pulled my moccasins on. I thundered down the stairs.

"Mom-Mom!" I yelled, almost slamming into the wall. "I have to go! Now!" There wasn't a reply. I forgot. She'd be gone all week. I let out a cry of panic.

E: I forgot my mom is out of town, and I missed the bus about twenty minutes ago...
T: what should I say to Landon? He's just standing there.
E: I'll call him later. No ones going to give me a ride, first period starts in ten minutes.
T: I'm sorry, sis.
J: how about I pick you up during third period? So in like two hours. We're seniors, I'll just say I left something at my house.
E: that would be great, but you don't have to go out of your way.
J: Shut up, third period is my free period. See you soon.

I tossed my bag on the couch and trudged into the kitchen. What a start to my day. I already had done all of my homework. I guess I could go upstairs for awhile.

"Emma," A voice said. "Emma. Emmalyn Rose!"

"Mmmmggggg..." I groaned. A pillow hit me on my head.

"Wake up!" Jade yelled. "Or I'll get the water!" I heard a faucet turn on in the hall. I slowly sat up, rubbing my eyes. Waking up is really hard, especially when your dreams are better than reality. My blurred vision wavered over the room. Jade was practically on top of me, and Truffle must've gone to get water from the bathroom. Wait, who was sitting at my desk?

I blinked, and squinted at my desk. Landon was sitting there, with his arms lazily crossed and slouching in my chair. I wheezed loudly and threw the blanket off of my legs.

"We tried ringing the doorbell like five times," Jade said. "So then truffle picked your lock and we came up here." Truffle stepped in the room, grinning.

"Where's your key?" I demanded.

"Ruffle ate it!" Truffle protested. Another thing, he has an obnoxious chihuahua named Ruffle. Ruffle and Truffle. Nothing made me want to die more.

"Well, we have a special day planned!" Jade said. "Get dressed, we're going out!"
