I closed my eyes and breathed in, this isn't fair... Laurence shouldn't have to go through all of this... Not because of me...
But never in my 16 years of living did I ever think I'd hang out with Gene... Never.I walked down the snowy streets, and made my way to Phoenix Drop Park, where Gene was waiting for me.
I walked up to him and he smiled at me, "Hey. I heard about Laurence, I'm sorry," he said.
"Thanks.. Now what do you want?" I asked.
"I need help, there's an upcoming math test and you seem to be the only person who's good at math, and who answered my messages," Gene explained.
"So you need help studying?" I asked.
"Ya... Will you help? I'll pay you 10 bucks an hour," he offered.
"20," I bargained.
"15," he said.
"Done."I smiled and we walked to the local library, where we study for about an hour. I looked at him and started to talk.
"Tomorrow is Remembrance Day," I said.
"Ya...?" He said confused.
"Everyone in the school is gonna take a Japanese Lantern and let it into the sky..." I rolled my eyes, "Japanese Lanterns are symbols of letting go of the past."
Gene looked at me and I mocked it, "News Flash: We're not Japanese."
Gene set down his pencil and looked at me, not saying a word... "You know what they are... children... Like lighting a candle is gonna make everything okay, or saying a prayer," I rolled my eyes at the thought, "And I know what you're gonna say... 'It makes them feel better (Y/n)', so what? For how long? A minute? A day? What difference does it make?"He looked at me with concern as I continued my rant, "Because in the end, when you lose somebody... Every candle, every... prayer. It not gonna make up for the fact that the only thing that you have left, is a hole, in your life where that somebody you care about used to be."
He smiled and grabbed my hand, I looked at him, smiled a bit, but pulled away and continued to write, "What's the point of remembering the ones you love, when you have no one to love you..."~•~•~
After the study session with Gene, we went to the cafe and got coffee. This is a side of him I've never seen, he was being nice... It's weird...
"So, what do you have against Remembrance Day?" Gene asked.
"It's just dumb. Like lighting a candle or saying a prayer is going to make everything okay," I said.
We were interrupted by Sasha and Zenix sliding into the booth we were sitting in.
"Since when do you chill with bones?" Sasha asked.
"Shut up Sasha, she's been through a lot these past couple days. Plus, I needed help with math and she was the only one who responded," Gene glared.
"Sorry, just curious," Sasha rolled her eyes.I stood up and grabbed my jacket, "I have to go, I'll see you later."
I walked out of the cafe, coffee in hand, and headed home.I stared at the sidewalk as I walked down the street. Suddenly, I was in the snow, coffee staining the snow. I looked up to see Zane standing above me, I glared at him and picked up my coffee cup. Don't litter kids.
He looked at me, "What?" I asked.
"Aren't you going to apologize?" Zane asked.
"No, you bumped into me. Didn't even help me up either, I'm done apologizing to you," I glared.I started walked away when he grabbed my wrist, I looked at his black eye and swollen nose.
"Laurence should've hit you harder," I glared, ripping my arm away.
"We should've kicked you out a long time ago," Zane glared.
"I agree, I'd rather live on the streets then spend another moment in that house with you and the people who made me want to die," I said.
He didn't say anything, and I walked home. Because it was true, he can't be angry when he's the one who did this... I hope he's happy with himself, I really do.~•~•~
