I paced back and forth in Lyla's room who had already heard the news and was pissed off.
"I don't have a choice! I can't argue with the system... I swear this is all the Ro'Meaves fault!" I shouted, "I don't wanna leave! I love it here! I've made my home here and now my mom is just gonna take it all away!"
"How are you gonna tell Gene?" Lyla asked.
"I-" I stopped myself, I don't know how I'm gonna tell Gene... Hell I don't even know how I told myself this!

I stopped pacing and sat down on the floor with Lyla, "I love my mom... She means the world to me... All I have ever wanted was a mom and now I have one... I'm going to choose her every time..." I frowned.
Lyla smiled and grabbed my hand, "Promise me you'll find me... wherever we are..."
I smiled slightly and gripped her hand tightly, "I promise..."

I took a deep breath as I sat on the bench in the park, waiting for Gene to show up, finally ready to tell him that I'm leaving...

My heart dropped as I watched him walk into the park, I stood up and smiled at him, he quickly smiled back.
"Hey babe," he kissed my cheek, "You wanted to talk?"
"Yeah..." I frowned.

I sat back down and Gene got a worried look and I began to explain what was happening... He sat there in shock and silence, sometimes I don't think he heard what I was saying, I was seeing his heart break in front of me... and there was nothing I could do.
"When are you leaving?" Gene asked.
"Tomorrow..." I frowned.
"You waited till now to tell me? Is this why you've been avoiding me?" Gene asked.
"I didn't want to- I just... didn't know how to tell you..." I looked down.

I watched Gene stand in anger, "How could you not tell me until now? We could've spent the last week together!"
"Listen... I don't want to go!" I shouted, "I have wanted a mom my entire life! Now I finally get one as soon as everything is good... But I had to choose her, she's my mom Gene..."
"What about me?!" Gene yelled.
I glared at him, "See this is exactly why I didn't want to tell you! You were going to make me choose between her or you!"
"And you would choose her?" Gene asked.
"Of course I'd choose her! She's my mom!" I admitted.
Gene took a deep breath, "If you're leaving then this should end..."
"It ended the moment I said I'm leaving..." I looked at him with tears in my eyes.

Tears fell from my cheeks as Gene walked away from me. My phone dinged and I looked down to see a text from Lyla -

Lyla - Hey! Come back home, we have a surprise for you!

Y/n - Okay, on my way back.

I walked into my house to see Aphmau, Katelyn, Lucinda, Garroth, Vlyad, Laurence and Aaron all smiling at me. Lyla walked up and hugged me.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"A goodbye party!" Lyla tried to say happily, "We want your last days here to be special..."
I smiled slightly and we all began to sit and talk, play games and sing songs. Laurence grabbed them guitar and smiled at me.
"What song?" He asked.
"Oh.. I don't sing," I said shyly.
"Oh please, I hear you belting in the shower, you have a beautiful voice," Lyla smiled.
"Okay... But we'll need karaoke, not a guitar," I said.

We typed in the instrumental for the song and as it began to play, I builder the courage to sing.

As the song ended, everyone stood in surprise but I quickly ended it as people started to bring out goodbye gifts for me.
Lyla gave me a new dancing outfit, Aphmau gave me a stuffed toy, Katelyn gave me boxing gloves, Garroth gave me a bracelet and Vlyad a necklace. Aaron gave me a blue bandana, Laurence gave me his guitar and it was finally down to Lucinda but she needed to wait till later to give it to me.

I thanked everyone for their gifts and we all shared tears. Soon, we all sat down to watch a movie but I had stepped outside and was looking at the pool lights. I heard the door open and I turned to see Lucinda.
"Hey girl, whatcha doing out here?" She asked.
"Oh just... Thinking about stuff," I sighed.
"I have your gift," Lucinda smiled.

She pulled out a beautiful white crystal, "Wow, it's gorgeous."
"It's magic," Lucinda smiled, "Set it in any kind of light, and you'll be able to talk to the one you're thinking of. So you can have conversations with the... magical holographic image of your subconscious."
"Thank you Lucinda, this means the world to me," I smiled and hugged her tightly.
"So... Why isn't Gene here?" She asked.
"We... broke up," I frowned, "Long distance isn't our thing, it's just better this way."
"Well... I'll keep an eye on his for you," Lucinda smiled.
"Thank you," I smiled back.

Lucinda turned back to see Aphmau motioning us to come inside, "We should get back in there before Aphmau kills us."

We walked back inside... and enjoyed the last moments we'd have together...

With all my stuff packed and in the car, I said my goodbyes to all my friends. I gave Lyla, Laurence and Hayden big hugs.
"I'm gonna miss you kiddo," Hayden frowned.
"I'm gonna miss you too..." I sighed, "Take care of them, make sure Laurence doesn't get arrested again."
Hayden chuckled, "Okay, I will."

Hayden turned to speak with Amber while I went to talk to Laurence and Lyla.
"Okay..." I clapped my hands, "This is it..."
As I hugged Laurence, I saw a figure running towards me, "Gene?" I questioned.

I let go of Laurence as Gene ran up to me, "Hey! Glad I caught you before you left."
Gene led me off away from the others and I looked at him confused, "What are you doing here?"
"I feel terrible for leaving things the way we did but I need you to know something..." Gene smiled and tucked hair behind my ear, "I'll be waiting... I'll be waiting for you..."
I smiled brightly as we kissed one last time, "(Y/n) honey!" Amber called, "It's time to go."

I took a deep breath and looked at everyone, I smiled sadly and got in the car. Lyla handed me Charlie in his crate through the window.
Amber looked at me, "Are you sure you want this?"
"No..." I frowned, "But you're my mom... and I'll go anywhere to be with you."
Amber smiled and grabbed my hand, she started the car and I looked out the window as everyone waved goodbye to me.

As we drove out of the city, I saw some people standing at the Welcome to Phoenix Drop sign, I squinted and realized it was all my friends... Aaron, Garroth, Vlyad, Katelyn, Lucinda even Zane was there... All the people who've influenced me in ways they'd never know.

I waved to them and as we passed, I looked at my mom and smiled, "Till next time Phoenix Drop..." I muttered.
