INT. VIVUS UNIVERSITY - RESEARCH LAB – DAY

::An organized disarray of centrifuges, incubators, microscopes, autoclaves and requisite lab supplies clutters the countertops.

::Amongst the workers, engrossed in an experiment, is head lab technician CALVIN JAMISON (29/black). The size of his athletic frame, which otherwise works to his advantage, causes him to hunch over a workbench. He embodies an unusual mixture of both humility and confidence.

::From his adjoining office, Barry enters the room wearing a crisp lab coat.

BARRY

How is it going in here?

::Calvin looks up. A discoloration of his skin, known as a Birth Status Marker, is revealed. The marker abstractly resembles a cosmic band of stars starting at his right temple, running along the side of his face, and ending next to his right ear lobe. In color, it contrasts with his mahogany complexion.

CALVIN

Good. How was lunch?

BARRY

Eventful! My wife and daughter

visited.

CALVIN

I'm sorry I missed them. Ryan

especially. When you think I

BARRY

Maybe one day.

CALVIN

::Calvin notices Barry seems more drained than usual.

CALVIN (CONT'D)

BARRY

We were eating outside and a

CALVIN

BARRY
