In her slumber, Kyan dreamed about things she tried not to remember. The things that were better off being called a minor memory. She didn't necessarily push it away, she'd like to think.
She watched brief flashes of her memory speeding past in a blur - training in the K-9 unit with her sister, meeting Merli and Tez. Running away from her pack.
The sound of that shotgun.
And Kyan running away with her sister, Zeck, on her back.
They end at an injured version of herself, Tez and Merli's silhouettes finding her.
Kyan recalled this memory. Before she was separated from her littermate, Zeck, she went to a pack but became a loner soon after. She started caring less and less for living. She couldn't stop the thought of Zeck being long gone.
Tez and Merli found her on the verge of death. They took care of her, and they became friends.
Not by choice, but we sure did.
Kyan sat up, staring out from the inside of the den. She gazed up at the moon and to the stars, pondering.
