Canid Undead: A Dog's Story

2 - Facility

The two of them roamed the ventilation system, and the dog soon became aware of the small cat's anxiety.

Juno was in the lead, walking with shaky confidence. The much larger dog, Token, followed his cat in a cramped crouch.

"This vent will lead to another facility. A more basic one," Juno said. Token trudged forward.

Eventually, the never-ending vent ended. The two jumped out, entering a room. They ran into an open hallway, their paws skidding across the floor.

They loitered behind a wall until few humans in white coats passed by. With his tail, Juno signaled to Token, leading him to the next room. There the humans stood, working with foreign technology.

Token being a bigger-than-most dog caused the scientists to set off a silent alarm. Token guessed this was a way to signal their furless, two-legged packmates.

Token turned to see gigantic, rotting, mutated dogs and cats trying to break through from behind a glassed-in enclosure. The canines and the felines were almost horse-sized. Other used-to-be-small animals like ferrets were dog-sized.

Juno pressed a few buttons before pressing a red button near the angered, lycanthropic creatures, which was on a board, connecting to holes in the walls. A sound that of a yowl pierced Token's ears.

"All of the cages should be open," Juno announced, loud.

More of the cretins awoke from within the enclosure, a gas releasing from inside the big, glass dome. The rest had stirred, the glass starting to crack once they'd started bashing their heads against it in unison.

The cretins' eyes were of dead fish. Soulless and white. Token's eyes widened with disgust. He picked up Juno with his snout, using a table to assist him in his leap. The two of them ventured through a ventilation system. Ahead he spotted the end of the system. He sped up, breaking out with his head.

Token and Juno see the outside world once more.
