"Where the hell have you guys been?" Lacey yells as we step into their apartment
"Sorry Lace, Hallie couldn't find her costume"
Lacey looks down at a smiling Hallie.
"Oh look at you! You look like a princess!"
"Thank you auntie Lacey"
Hallie lets go of Novas hand and runs over our mom who is sitting on the couch, with Wendy.
My mom has a smile on her face as Hallie sits on her lap.
"Where's Griffin? I wanna see him!" Nova squeals.
"He's in the kitchen with Jonas"
Nova pecks my cheek before taking off into the kitchen.
"Happy birthday sis"
Lacey smiles at me, but her face soon drops.
"What's wrong?"
"Dads not here" she says disheartened
"Did mom tell you why?"
Lacey shakes her head.
I wrap my sister into a hug.
"I'm sorry Lace."
She sniffles before pulling away.
"I know it's hard, but try to enjoy your party Lace. Don't let the bastard ruin it."
She nods her head.
Before I can say anything else Nova and Jonas, who is carrying Griffin come greet us.
"There's my beautiful angel" Jonas says kissing Lacey on the cheek.
Nova comes and stands by me, wrapping her arms around my waist.
"Lulu? What's wrong baby?"
Lacey shows her husband a weak smile as Griffin reaches out for her.
"Momma" he says extending his tiny arms out.
Lacey takes him and goes to sit down my mom and Wendy.
I turn back to Jonas.
He was wearing a full blown Batman outfit. I stifle my laugh looking at him.
"Shut up dickhead. I only dressed up because Griffin wanted me too"
"Awwww" Nova says
Jonas glares at her before crossing his arms.
"How long has mom been here?" I ask him, changing the subject.
"Uh about three days" he responds scratching the back of his neck.
Immediately my hands clench into fists. He didn't show up and mom has been here for three days.
Before I can respond Wendy's voice interrupts me.
"Jonas honey, do you want to get everything set up? It's almost present time"
Jonas gives me a sympathetic look before patting my shoulder and walking towards the living room.
"Hey you okay?" Nova asks me.
"No I'm not"
"Babe what's wrong? What happened?"
I look down at her and can see the concern.
"Nothing, we'll talk about it later"
She nods and kisses me briefly before grabbing my hand and leading us to the couch. I take a seat and Nova sits on my lap. I wrap my arms around her waist and lay my chin on her shoulder.
