It's been almost two months since I've started taking care of Levi and let me say this, he is huge now. And when I say huge, I mean huge. He has grown bigger than expected, and because of that, they had to increase the wall of his enclosure.
Even though he has grown to be the apex predator in the park with huge claws almost the size of my arm, long spines on his neck and back, sharp and pointy teeth in his mouth, and a body bigger than the Tyrannosaurus, the tyrant lizard, King of the dinosaurs.
But for Levi, the Indominus Rex, his name means fierce or untamable king. However, with me, he is still a very big puppy. I was now sitting down inside the glass box watching over Levi. The guy that usually sits there and monitors the cameras both inside and outside had to go somewhere, and I'm taking his place.
He told me he never sees the Indominus when he is there, but once I arrive, he shows up. Levi is a bit shy from what I've seen, at least to other people. As he grew older and bigger, he has hidden himself most times. And now the guy isn't here, Levi is sniffing the ground in front of the glass wall. Once in a while, he would raise his head to look at me before sniffing the ground again.
I know he wants for me to go inside, but the rules are that at least one person needs to be supervising when I'm inside. My ears pick up the sound of footsteps against the concrete and metal ground, and I knock hard on the glass wall to catch Levi attention.
He lifts his head and looks at me as I wave my hand for him to go and hide. He cocks his head to the side not understanding what I mean. I sigh and point at myself, then to the door where I go through to go inside, then I point at the chair the guy sits, and to the door he will soon come through.
He understands by giving me a nod and walking into the dense trees. A few seconds later the guy comes in, and I stand up ready to take my leave.
"Can I ask you something?" The guy speaks up. I look at him and nod; I'm in a good mood today, and I don't know why. "How are you not dead?" The question sounds offending, but his voice was full of curiosity.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest.
"I mean, the dinosaur inside there is huge, and as soon the crane goes down with meat it eats it as its life depends on it. And you go inside every day and come out without a scratch. What do you do?" I was a bit pissed that he called Levi it, but I'll let it pass. He is a security guard of sorts either way.
"I don't know. I think since I've been taking care of him since he was born we have a bond of sorts," I shrug. "I think it depends on the way you treat an animal; its behavior will reflect in the future, just like a dog. If you treat it badly, it will seek revenge and turn aggressive towards you. But if treat it nicely with care and love it will love and protect you."
"But it's a dinosaur," There goes my beautiful little speech.
"A highly intelligent one. And very obedient one I must say. One may not expect it to come out of nowhere and eat ya," I teased.
"Are you threatening me?" He asked with an arched eyebrow and a serious tone.
"Of course not. Just don't call my dinosaur it again," Before he could reply I walked out the door and down the stairs. Once I walked inside the room, I grabbed some meat and stored it inside a thermal bag.
I opened the door inside the enclosure and walked into the trees. I knew Levi would stay behind them, so I had to go to him. There he was laying on the ground hitting down on a fallen tree trunk as if it was big bone.
"Hey there boy," I called him placing the bag on the ground and walking to him. He looks up at me and snorts. "Having fun with your new toy?" I ask chuckling. As a response, he bit down on the tree and broke it in two. "Ex new toy," I chuckle.
