Prologue
I’d like to say there’s a happy ending at the end of this endeavor. I’d like to say the day was saved by a masked hero, that life as we knew it was restored. But the problem Is life as we knew it was still a nightmare. Perhaps just a less bloody one.
If there’s any light in these dark times it’s what people learn. Learn to be strong, to be compassionate. Learn to savor every single day as if it were your last. Because the odds are it is.
That and the fact that nothing you do can make things worse. After all, when the world around you is in ruins, you can’t destroy it. When you’re sitting helplessly in the rubble of your dreams, there’s nothing to lose.
You can’t break what is already dust.
