Six months since I went away,

And I didn't know that everything has changed,

Back tomorrow I'll be coming back to you.

I woke up the next morning feeling super nauseous. The baby was active in overdrive and I knew that if I got up, I would paass out. I never felt this bad any other day during my pregnancy. I slowly slid to the side of the bed and sat up. I slowly got up supporting myself on the wall. I made my way to the bathroom whilst using the walls as a guider. I turned on the light and slowly walked to the vanity. I splashed some water on my face and looked in the mirror. The girl looking back was not me, yet she blinked when I blinked and moved when I moved. She was sickly pale and yellow and had prominent cheekbones. The baby went into spastic mode and I only just made it to the toilet before I threw up. I instantly knew something wasn't right.

I called the midwife who had been looking after me during my pregnancy and explained everything to her. She told me to come straight to the hospital and to bring a packed bag with me. I decided to call Michael and let him know what was happening.

'Hey babe... Mickey. I'm going into hospital. I haven't been feeling well and the baby is doing weird things... Anna, I'm coming for you. I promise. I'm going to explain to the boys and book a flight... No Mickey its ok. I'll be fine... Fuck the tour Anna. You're more important, will you be in the usual hospital?... Yeah I will be. Michael? Are you sure?... Yes. I'm going to go explain to the boys and book the flight... Ok... Can you do something for me though?... Of course. Anything... Look after yourself and make sure the baby doesn't come while I'm on my flight... I promise. I love you... I love you too. I'll see you soon'. He hung up and I drove to the hospital.

The prognosis from the hospital wasn't good. Each time I had to get an ultrasound it would hurt so much that they had to stop. My blood tests came back with low nutrients, vitamins and minerals and I had to keep getting shots. The worst part of it all was my poor baby wasn't getting sufficient oxygen. The nurse told me that they had to do a emergency c-section, 'Its for your benefit and the babies... Please. How much longer can I wait until I really have to?... Maximum 9 hours... Please I promised Michael... Ok. But as soon as we see something starts declining we're taking you in'. I agreed and waited.

I knew that I was getting worse and worse and when the nurse saw me and lifted up my shirt to monitor the babies heart, she ran back out of the room. I lifted up my shirt to see what had alarmed her and saw that I was bleeding. Internally and externally. She came in with the doctor and he said, 'Anna, we are going to perform the emergency cesarean section now. You have had a placental abrasion and if we don't do something now, both you and the baby will die... Please. Wait for Michael'. Spots started clouding my vision and I used my last bit of energy to whisper something in the nurses ear, 'Tell Michael I'm sorry that I couldn't keep my promise'. Everything went dark and silent.

When I started waking, I heard beeping of machines and people giving orders. The one thing that was as clear as daylight was someone whispering my name telling me it was going to be ok. It was Michael. He had made it. I felt a new surge of energy and tried to open my eyes. Michael must have seen because he said, 'She's waking up', a doctor came to my side by the time I fully opened my eyes, 'Hi Anna. You're still in operation. The procedure is delicate and we should be done really soon and you can meet your baby', I smiled at the doctor and looked over at Michael, 'I'm so sorry', he kissed my forehead and whispered, 'Don't be. Its ok. You kept your promise', I started laughing and that's when I felt someones hands rummaging inside me. I looked down but couldn't see anything due to the cloth blocking my lower half. The doctor called one of the nurses over and handed her my baby. He muttered something that sounded like not breathing. The nurse carried my baby to the side of the room and that's when I started feeling faint again, 'Michael I don't feel so...'. It all went dark again.
